That was basically the premise of The Golden Girls. The house belonged to Blanche, but all four of them lived there. Sadly, I don’t recall the details well enough to know if Dorothy and Rose were paying rent.
And I didn’t realize/remember until I just looked it up, but they’re an example of " the newer version" in that they didn’t know each other until Dorothy and Rose answered Blanche’s ad for roommates.
