Slightly different search parameters, but the change is not in fact making any difference.

I’ve now received a Google alert for this thread, about a day and a half after the fact. So much for “as it happens”.

I’m vaguely uncomfortable about this. I really can’t express my misgivings precisely, but, for instance, what if S **rmf** nt were to have a Google Alert based on their name?
Can the SDMB opt out of Google Alerts?

I don’t know what **l e k a t t** uses, but if you mention his name, he shows up. Even though most of us don’t want him to. That’s why we put the spaces in his user name. Sooner or later, he may discover that dodge, but until then, it means we don’t have to deal with him even when we mention him. Google alerts is just a new way for people like that to show up when someone mentions them.
