Apparently playing Basketball is the first step to catching Teh Gay, too! :eek:
Also, it would seem only police officers and dangerous perverts owned cars in 1950s Los Angeles… :eek:
I wonder if they still make PSA films these days? I know British Rail still do some about not playing on railway lines or in tunnels, but I wonder if someone, somewhere still makes educational films set in this perfect little world where everyone is well-dressed and polite, men still wear hats, and all the houses have nifty little picket fences and a retro-looking car in the driveway? 🙂

I was a little freaked when both the plain clothes officer on juvenile detail AND the anonymous man picking up paper boys both drove identical '59 Chevys. :eek:

I don’t know about the retro cars, but the Armed Forces Network is notorious for its helpful and informative PSAs they broadcast to soldiers overseas. Some of my favorites from the early 90’s;
The Posture Police! They had this totally gay guy running around busting people for bad posture and lecturing them on the importance of _good_ posture.
The Fruit & Vegetable Guy. Can’t remember exactly what the catch-phrase was but they had this other totally gay guy singing and dancing his way through the produce section of the commissary letting everyone know the importance of eating lots of fruits and vegetables.
The other one I liked was Power Cord Jungle. In this one they lecture Americans about the importance of not overloading the primitive European electrical system with gahjillions of electric devices. They’d show this American family having to hack their way through a “jungle” of power cords just to get into their living room.

I think the implication they were going for was that a girl already knows not to get into a car with a strange man, but a boy probably wouldn’t realize the danger there.

As an aside - did you see the episode of “The Office” where Jim and Pam convinced Dwight to buy some gaydar online, and he did? I was having trouble breathing, I was laughing so hard.
