How do you know it wasn’t a robbery, or non-rap related homicide?
Either way, though, it’s a sad loss of one of rap’s pioneers.

I have to say, **montezuma** that I kind of resent your using this sad occasion as an excuse to slam rap music in general. They’re not all thugs, you know. (Even if a disturbingly large percentage are.)

Jam Master Jay was hardly living the gangsta life. Run-DMC spoke out against violence and gang banging on a number of occsaions. Run, DMC and Jay never were part of the whole trash-talking and thug scene. In fact I would wager that every rapper-- “east coast” or “west coast”-- respected them and saw them for what they were: rap pioneers.
There are no leads reported as to the motive, but I’d be willing to bet it was a robbery or something like that. I could be wrong, but I don’t think Jay wouldn’ve pissed somebody off professionally to the point of murder. At least I hope not.
Regardless, I think it’s unfair to assume this was “another rap death” ala Biggie Smalls and Tupac.
A sad day. ☹

let’s not be too quick to kiss the boy’s ass, now! we don’t know what skeletons he had hidden in his closet…he could have been a few mil short on his payments to some colombian drug lord for all the info that we’ve got…after all, look at the o.j. simpson surprise.
