I might not be in Georgia, but here in Kentucky it’s hot as blue blazes after a reasonably mild spring. I have no pool to float in, however, like _some people_. Thanks for the story, **Meeks**! I’ve read very little mythology in recent years; your story makes me interested once again. My big news is I’ve about got my husband interested in joining yoga. I should probably elaborate a bit – I belong to a unit whose job it is to create advance plans that can be implemented _ **if** _ and when required. So this doesn’t mean there’s anything definite happening yet – just preparing ourselves in advance, just in case. Also a bit of CYA-ing perhaps because the perception last year was that the planners were caught somewhat unawares. So, while I’m not sure nothing will happen this summer, it isn’t like the first shots have been fired, yet. It’s just contingency planning, really. Also, it’s an HQ posting, so even if hostilities break out, I’ll be in HQ not out in the field. Not that there won’t be guys out there putting their lives on the line if something does happen ☹ – but it won’t be me. Thanks everyone who’s expressed concern – but this is supposed to be **Mika** ’s thread, so let’s let her enjoy her well-earned kudos at least through page 1? ---

I loathe hot weather. Coupled with cicadas, I may never go outside again… It seems to be the time of weird dreams. I dreamt I gave a bed bath to the devil. He had dark red, leathery skin and acted like someone with ADD. It also involved a room, two young girls and a baby, a rag rug of my mother’s, an Indian woman (odd coincidence, that), and having no mirrors in the bathroom. It all made sense in the dream, but I find as soon as I try to make dreams linear, I forget them. Lovely poem, **Mika** –I especially like the bit about victory/defeat at the end. I am somewhat better, and resigned (again) to having a non-entity for a spouse. By that I mean I might as well be by myself, for all the interaction and care between us. That sounds really harsh. I did look at some divorcenet stuff last night, but I’d rather get through grad school first (one more year)…oops, OT. Sorry. Raid attracts bears? :eek: I might could live with ants, if that’s the case! ---

I come bearing advice for anyone about to become a parent of a child. Ahem. **Do not take them to the movies**. Now, I am no mommy-novice. Little Darling Baby Cherry (LDBC) is the third toddler I’ve chased and I KNOW NOT TO TAKE BABIES TO THE THEATER. Trouble is, I’ve got a newbie daddy; LDBC is his first. So, I finally caved. LDBC loves _Cars_, adores _Shrek_ in all his many forms, and has been a _Little Einstein_ devotee for lo these many months. Gotta work, right? He’s been devouring and giggling through the _Ratatouille_ trailer on our _Cars_ DVD, so he’ll love going to the theater, right? :rolleyes: The Boy, now 9, as a wee tot, spent much of the Wild Thornberrys movie racing the aisles. This is what I was afraid of and, lo it did come to pass. While the charms of _Ratatouille_ (which we saw Saturday night as a Sneak Preview) were not lost on LDBC, the _long, lit stairway_ and _vast open aisle_ where much much MUCH more attractive. So, if it be in ye to reproduce, Ellen’s Advice is: WAIT until they’re in college before taking your darhlink to the movies! And, sayeth the devout Catholic mom: the same goes for church. You do not want to hear my tales of Storming the Altar. 😉 ---

Ellen, when I was a small child in India, I was being raised by my aunts. Movies were possibly the only thrill they could get, being dirt poor. Well, not once I came along. I didn’t let them go to see a movie. No, pay attention to ME! Once, they tell me, I got away from my aunt. And I didn’t scream or cry, not that time. No, instead I made it a point to go up to every person in the theatre and look intently into their face. My aunt was reduced to keeping an eye on me and not the movie. I didn’t really bother anyone too much, just stared at them until they patted my head, and said “Bacchi, hume dekhno do” (Child, let us watch). Then - on to the next person. Most of the time I was like WHY are you watching a SCREEN when you could be watching ME? Pay attention to ME - and chatter away. My aunts used to take turns, one watching the movie inside, and one staying with me outside. ---

I’m going to have to go back and reread the end of last week’s MMP. It sounds like I missed a lot! What’s wrong with **FCM** ’s eye(s)? And what happened between \*\*SpecialOne \*\*and **swampy**? I took Friday off, which was WONDERFUL. We get a lot of vacation time here so I think there are going to be many more summer Fridays off for me! I did all of the weekly chores and then lounged by the pool. It was fabulous. Then we went to see KeithT’s parents Sat-Sun. His parents are great but they have two shelties who are LOUD and obnoxious. I’m not a dog person to start with, and when these two start yapping their bloody heads off at 6 a.m., it doesn’t exactly make me think more favorably of them. So I was exhausted yesterday. Bleh. But otherwise it was a good time. KeithT’s parents are great and it’s fun getting together with them. I think next time we’re going to meet them “up north” where we can enjoy the scenery, have fun, and do it all without the damn dogs. Oh and we also finally got the poor kitty (who died in Feb) buried. (We’re in an apt so couldn’t bury her here, and having her cremated at the vet is expensive! So we had to take her to his parents’ to bury.) She’s been in the refrigerator in the garage since then. But the garage was starting to get a bit warm, and we weren’t sure how long the fridge could keep her frozen. :eek: So she’s in the ground now and we both feel much better about that. Great poem, **meeks**. Another busy day starting at work! Gotta run!! ---

I’m back. And I’m all bitter and angry. That’s right Bitter _and_ Angry. Not about anything important, but that doesn’t change the bitter angriness that’s just leaking from my pores. I’m, um, a Scrabble junkie. I play at least 10 games a day. Over the weekend I had what some would describe as a run of bad luck. The site that I play on rates us, and I’ve dropped more than 400 in the ratings and lost my last 24 games in a row. The sick thing is, I’m playing really well - I’m just not getting the letters. I just finished a game where my opponent got three natural bingos, plus 10 of the 11 power tiles. This is the kind of thing that happens once a year, but this is the 8th game of the above mentioned 24 that I’ve had something like this happen. Not exactly like this, most of the games my opp just got one natural bingo or something, but still got all of the power tiles. I even kept a list of power tiles. (Did I mention that I’m a Scrabbleholic?) In 24 games I have had: 1 blank 2 S 2 Q - one of which was on my last pull on a very tight board. I ate it. 1 X 1 J On the plus side, I AM playing very well. Despite my miserable letters, my opps have only beat me by an average of 39.6 points per game. If that ain’t mundane and pointless enough for an MMP, I don’t know what is. ---

We’re back from the park. One guy there had his dog shaved down to its undercoat, it looked like a farmer’s tan. 😃 I think it’s time for some brunch.
