The annoying thing is, that with those clues these movies sound so familiar. I feel that I should know them, but they just won’t come to me. Also, those clues independently very clearly point to a movie (i.e. “Lounge singer warbles about a whippoorwill”? Must be Trick), but together with the other completely baffles me. ---

The main star is very well known, but the remaining cast, not so much. The lounge singer was fairly popular (as a singer) in the day, and performed with a Vegas big band with her husband. Not much acting experience. The overblown names for people in the movie are more trick than anything, but if I had been much more descriptive, there wouldn’t have been much fun. One final clue: Bruce Springsteen. ---

But, you phrased it a million times better than I could. I knew that going for “Tastee Wheat” would probably be right out. Same for eating said steak with a spoon. I debated adding on “Mr.Regan likes to think, that when he doesn’t think about it, steak tastes pretty good.” But I think we can all agree that The Matrix wasn’t going to last too long unanswered. ---
