Athena,that was a great idea for a surprise trip. Misanthrope - Where do you live, maybe you can do a weekend getaway somewhere interesting. Doing a winery or antiquing or art museum, you know, girl stuff. I like the idea someone had about taking a professional picture every year. With the exception of high school pics, I’ve never had one taken. ( Our wedding photographer was a friend of a friend who was a news journalist.) Then you can watch the slow decline of the elasticity of your skin and the bloating of your bellies over the years. Ohhh, what about a “day at the spa” kinda thing for your wife. Haircut, massage, facial, manicures…ohhhh…if she declines it, sign me up. ---

Ohh, what about a jack o lantern carved and inside of it a pair of earrings ( or some such piece of jewelry) for her. ORRRRR - Give her 10 -15 minutes to make it to such and such location and call the payphone ( or business if they will play along with you…small business owners probably will) and at each stop, there is an envelope with a “good for” one massage or such thing taped to the bottom of the phone/booth. At the end of the merry trail you could have her meet you at a restaurant. ---

As the successor to Misanthrope, I wish to update all those who were concerned regarding my first anniversary. As you know, the traditional first anniversary gift is paper. So, I’m sure you’ll all be disappointed but I got her a gift certificate to a very nice day spa here in town, that will allow her to receive a manicure, pedicure, facial, and massage. She loved it.
