OK, a few months ago I decided to give this whole online dating thing a try. Its been a pretty interesting on the whole, met a few nice people & had a few very pleasant hours chatting over coffee - nothing every really ‘clicked’ but its been pleasant enough experience……until the last week or so. Things started out normal enough, I was contacted by a woman who, based on her profile, was worth a look. We did the usual sort of thing, exchanged emails for a while, swapped mobile numbers and sent the occasional SMS message…all good….until I got sick. I came down with a bad middle-ear infection which had me out of action for a week or so, during which I got 2 or 3 messages a day – all pretty much identical…odd, but I guess it takes all kinds. Next step, I call her up & we talk for a while, everything seems fine…until the end of the conversation when she just _faded_. Her voice dropped in volume, seemed to slur a bit and she kept asking the same questions…then hung up. Somewhat strange, I thought Day after I get a message apologizing (she was very, very tired etc) which I answered in a fairly non-committal way “Thats OK” etc. That night she rings me, again every thing is fine & we talk about the possibility of meeting up on the weekend. Then she just _faded_ again. This time I got three more calls from her in which she mumbled a few word & hung up. Alarm bells are now starting to ring. Next day more apologetic messages which turn into requests for me to _call as soon as I got the message_ (I was at work & in meetings most of the day and didn’t have my phone with me). It got to the point where I switched my phone to silent so the constant barrage of messages & phone calls wouldn’t annoy my coworkers. Forget the alarm bells – air-raids sirens are now sounding – this is getting far too weird for me. Then the final straw, she wants to know if we will be meeting up over the weekend. To which I reply that I don’t think that we will be. _sigh_ Now it begins in earnest. An escalation to a seemingly constant barrage of SMS messages. The final straw being three that came in at around **4:30am** (I forgot to turn of my phone). This lead to one of the few times I’ve lost it & sworn at a women - in fact blasphemy & an F-bomb - I was annoyed. Peace…for a while….I’ve had one more message since but I won’t be replying. I just can’t figure out why she would think this kind of harassment would be to her benefit. Anyone else had something like this? ---

Being way too old to have done internet dating, I can honestly say I’ve been spared anything even vaguely resembling your experience. All I can say is :eek: :eek: :eek: I’m at a loss to explain what would possess her to act like that - maybe she’s taking advice from the voices? Is is possible to block her number from your phone? ---

No, I don’t care if I’m getting a lot of messages/calls - so long as they don’t bother me. I’m not replying to anything and just deleting them as they arrive. She’s the one spending money on this. ---

Might not be a looney; might be a druggie. That sudden fading in mid-conversation could be a high wearing off, or a low kicking in. ---

And people wonder why I consider exchanging numbers to be a relatively big deal. I’ve been accused of being prudish, but then I’ve never been through anything like that. Well, not until after we’d met and I found out I completely misjudged her character. Another vote here for her being medicated (perhaps overly). ---

In the future I guess you should give out your home phone number. Traditional land line phone companies _can_ block incoming calls from specific numbers. ---

True, but with my name & home number she could get my address. My mobile isn’t listed in the phone book.
