Then again, I have had women send me nude or lingerie pics prior to meeting but that was only after the conversation took a certain direction. ---

I’m not sure I buy **Rachel** ’s suggestion that I’m just some lowly fat girl getting trolled— I have plenty of skinny, hot friends who have had nearly identical online dating experiences. So, yes, perhaps the world is just overrun with trolls-- possible. But I don’t think it’s a fat girl specific trolling if that is the case. Plus, I know plenty of women who have had far less frequent but still existent experiences IRL. So, this isn’t something just limited to the net. ---

I’m mostly just spitballing based on the stuff other women are saying in this thread. Obviously not \*everybody \*is coming by these negative experiences. You are, though, as am I and apparently your hot friends. How else would you explain it? For what it’s worth, I’ve never experienced anything in real-life that resembles receiving dick pics through online dating sites. ---

Back when I was dating about seven to ten years ago, there really wasn’t a good internet site here in Japan. There was a classified ad, sort of a classier Craig’s List. I tried it a little, but found it not particularly great. My friend used it more, and as a marketing man, he wrote a bunch of different ads to see what kind of responses he would get. He’s write long ads, short ads, marriage-minded, start with friends, etc. The most frequent response. “Send pic.” That’s it. Of course, meeting people in bars and then going on dates wasn’t particularly great either. People who were funny at 1:00 with a few drinks weren’t necessarily a great match at 3:00 pm over coffee. ---

I’m a guy and I don’t know how in tune with the rest of this thread this is, but I really dislike online dating because of how it skews the supply/demand dynamic. Your messages get lost in a flood of messages women get. When I would write to women I would write because I read their profile and liked what I saw of their personality, interests and goals. For many of the women I would be open to just building a friendship because they seemed like interesting people who understood the city better than I do and whose interests or personalities were things I could relate to. But I would virtually never get responses to the messages I sent out, and it felt degrading to write to a lot of women and get nothing back from them. I’m nothing special physically, but still. ---

Fat chick weighing in here. Heh. When I was doing the online dating thing I never got trolled. As a matter of fact, I met my late boyfriend on a free site within a few days of joining it. But I hadn’t ever had any issues on other sites that I’d been to either before I met him.
