Sorry to bring down the level of discussion here, but I feel obliged to tell everyone that I’ve always thought of :o as the “blowjob smiley.” How does this convey “embarrassment?” “Your c\*ck is in my mouth, I’m so embarrassed?” I don’t get it. ---

Since we’ve turned to the topic of eliminating smilies, I reckon we should get rid of :mad:. It’s superfluous. I am yet to see a poster on this board incapable of expressing their anger - and that’s putting it lightly! Smilies are crutches, and :mad: is an unnecessary one. ---

Kyomara - ask Sofa King to e-mail you his X-rated smilies, and you’ll see what a blowjob smiley is _really_ supposed to look like. :o Narrad - I use :mad: pretty often. It’s one I use to indicate a “fake, humorous” anger. As in “You want to get rid of my favourite smiley? Sirrah, allow me to slap your face with this glove! :mad:” ---

Actually, I’m becoming more sympathetic to accepting smilies on a trial basis. If, for example, a given smilie tended to provoke flame wars, I would advocate its removal. (For example, although I trust that :dubious: would have its uses, I’m not sure whether it might prove too provocative in practice. Ditto for smashie, except that I can see little or no constructive use for that icon.) And maybe we should have a “destroy blushy” vote. (Assuming smackie wins the current ballot.) ---

I like the idea of getting rid of blushie. And you’ve given me the idea for a suggestion for the next contest. What if we were to vote on a _concept_ (embarrassed, regretful, laughing, peevishness, horny) that we’d like to see ensmilied? Once the “concept” was done, everyone who wanted to could submit a smilie for that concept only. Once it passed the rigorous “No Porn smilies, dammit!” screening, we’d vote for the specific one we thought best expressed the concept. Maybe next round would be to come up with a better embarrassed smilie than poor blow-job-blushie. Thoughts? Opinions? Fenris ---

I think smacky could replace blushy. I like voting on concepts. The only hitch is that I suspect that some decent concepts may fail due to our lack of collective artistry. (Example: :nervous: / :uhoh: and maybe even :spock: ) ---
