Okay, I know there’s a “What’s your favorite word?” thread out there, but what about words that aren’t in the dictionary? There are plenty of onomatopoeic words that I love, that can’t be found in **Webster’s**. For example:

Glub\*\*
and some from the world of comics:
**Bamf!**
and
**Snkkt!**

and a home slang term for the sound of a small cat (or a big cat with a little-cat voice): Squeep!
I’m also abnormally fond of the word “fruitbat” although it’s not at all onomatopoeic.
Corr, whose Geeg meeps and squeeps and runs in circles (he weighs 17 pounds, so he’s hardly a kitten)

I don’t know if there are any Cerebus fans in the house, but one time, Cerebus was staggering drunk, and his “advisor,” Astoria, gave hima pill that cures drunkenness by bringing on an instantaneous hangover. “WUMBA” was Dave Sim’s onomatopoeia for a splitting, throbbing headache.

There’s some great onomatopoeia in Hebrew. My favorite is “bakbuk”, which means _bottle_. Say it a bunch of times, and you’ll hear it. Also good is “galgal”, which means _wheel_. It’s the sound of a wheel going over cobblestone street.
