A relationship? Or married? Tracy and Hepburn never married, but they had a relationship off-screen. There have been many off-screen affairs by costars (who often were already married, and who never made it legal) Back in the Golden Age of Hollywood, the publicity machines kept it all under wraps. For instance, Marlene Dietrich and James Stewart supposedly had an affair on the set of **Destry Rides Again** ; Dietrich deliberately set her sights on Stewart and got him interested by playing on his enthusiasms and putting a giant cardboard cutout of Flash Gorden in her dressing room. Some people even considered such things inevitable: the stars were making love to each other in front of the cameras, and often continued after the cameras stopped rolling. ---

I’ve been trying to find out when British actors Belinda Lang and Hugh Fraser (best known as Hercule Poirot’s friend Hastings) were married; they worked together and their characters were romantically involved in the finale episodes of “The Bretts,” but I can’t say for sure whether that was before or after the two were romantically involved themselves. ---

And while it was a Broadway musical long before it was a movie, Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel met during their performances in the original cast of _Rent_ (as Benny and Maureen) and got married. They reappeared in last year’s movie adaptation in the same roles. ---
