I thought I set the washer to start automatically. I even checked the app on my phone. Well, I guess that when I checked it on my phone, I canceled the program. The washer did not start, so hubby started it when we got home, which means the wash will be done at 9:00 pm. If we were to put it in the dryer, it would take another 2 hours, or more. So we’ll be hanging the towels in the drying room. Which leads me to my other rant. We have to do the wash tonight because hubby only has one bath towel, which is hemp. We got used to only having one towel each, as we’d usually wash the towels on Saturday or Sunday. But we’re trying to be organized (Hah!) and want to get laundry done on weekdays. The place that had the towel that he has, is out of stock. There’s another shop that has them, so that’s another account to set up. We could have bought towels in May, when there was a hemp fair, and they had all sorts of hemp products. But we didn’t. Bah. ---

Our stove needed servicing (the final straw came when the service beep went off at 11:30pm in the goddamn evening (after I’m very much asleep.)) Turns out we have to replace it. I rather liked the stove. We already have to replace the stove at our old house so this Sunday on our date day we will have the joy of picking out two stoves. What’s the over/under on them delivering each to the wrong house? ---

In case you wondered how fucking stupid people are, there’s a guy my FIL knows who I guess does some kind of church couples counseling? My FIL says to me, “I’ve got a friend who is counseling a man (victim) in a domestic violence situation. He thought it might help to have them introduce BDSM into the bedroom. Do you think that’s a good idea or no?” ---

I think this take is influenced by the religious impulse to preserve marriage at any cost. Because the only sane response is “help the guy get the hell out of that situation.” Fun fact: in the recent federal grant we received for youth domestic violence services, I had to write three pages about how our services would promote marriage and family formation. ---

I wish to anti-rant in praise of the LXW. Despite being extremely busy with her business – unbelievably so, she often works late into the night and on weekends and generally starts at around 6:00 AM – she set me up with her wonderful GP, drove me there, and accompanied me in the visit. Now she’s forced me to get more medical care inflicted on me by scheduling a three-stop tour for Holter monitor, bloodwork, and X-ray and acting as chauffeur to all three locations. Then she’ll take me to return the monitor and get a cardiac ultrasound. She’s also assisting my incredible realtor and her assistants who’ve been doing such a fantastic job prepping the place. And it’s not every realtor that gives you a warm hug as they depart for a long weekend (we just had Canadian Thanksgiving). ---

I live in NC-11 district and I wish I didn’t have to see those stupid ads. My least favorite is the one where Jennifer Balkom (the Republican candidate) talks about how her mom shot a guy for breaking into her house and her mom looks straight at the camera and says, “You break in my house, you’re gonna get shot.” Am I supposed to infer that Balkom’s mom will shoot you if you don’t vote for her daughter? Because that’s the message I’m getting. ---

Mini rant, Meijer no longer stocks **Just Spices**. Their avocado seasoning was the best, flaked salt with a variety of peppercorns and chile flakes. I grabbed another all purpose seasons brand, Dan’s iirc, why package something with the texture of silt. And it looks and tastes like celery salt but the ingredient list says otherwise. Disappointing to say the least. ---

Full disclosure: I don’t like doing things. Like, leaving the house and being around lots of people things. Which is why I’m kind of dreading Halloween. I know it won’t feel so bad when I’m in it, but I have no real desire to hang out with a bunch of children and assorted family members, there will probably be a lot of noise and it might rain or snow, we won’t be home until late, I can really think of so many reasons. And it started innocently enough, I asked my cousin if we could catch up sometime, she said you should come over for Halloween, I said “Great!” And now everybody is going to be there, which means we won’t catch up at all. And I should have known that. What’s worse, is my husband loves this shit, and every time he does it I get this lecture about how important it is to him to spend time with his cousins, implied _so you should go for me._ I have some low-level but chronic marital problems which is another subject I guess but I feel like my husband was pretty chill about most things until the last few years when he started pressuring me more and more to be a different way. He used to accept me more for who I was and not pressure me to be different. Now I feel like there’s always some complaint. We are under a lot of stress. This is not marriage -ending, it just kinda sucks. Well honestly it’s just stressing me the fuck out. I also have a wedding to attend in Chicago that week, which is my best friend from high school’s wedding so I really should have no issue, and at least I’ll get to see my beloved Aunt that I haven’t had time to see all year. But it’s still a whole thing I have to do. I know I’m not a normal person, I’ve made peace with that. But all this stuff I’ve been listening to about living with neurodivergence… “Learn when to say no.” Well, I want to always say no. “No” forever. I want to see people in groups no larger than four at a time, for the rest of my natural life. Is that so much to ask? ---

You and your husband can in fact have completely separate social lives if you want. Just as you would if you both lived and worked in separate cities 500 miles apart and only got together a couple days per month. There are thousands of such marriages around the country. That too has a cost. Whether it’s worth it to both of you to pay that cost is for you two to decide. Which decision starts with a frank conversation while you’re both attuned to actually hearing what the other is saying. For all your husband’s professional skill, and all his evident understanding of some aspects of you, over the years I’ve gotten the impression he also has some glaring blind spots. Which might be blindness, or might be unwillingness to see. Darn humans! Good luck. Seriously, not snarkily. ---

Love traveling and seeing new places but absolutely hate packing. I am going to Arizona next week where I will have to pack everything I need in a carryon for weather that ranges from the high 90s to the mid 30s. The last 10 years of so I have traveled with just a carryon except if I am going to a long beach vacation like Aruba where it’s just not feasible. I think if I wear a substantial zipper hoodie under a rain jacket that should be enough cold weather management. I will also pack gloves and maybe a throw away scarf. ---

My wife is extremely busy during the run-up to, and including, the Xmas holidays and wants to put up the Xmas tree on Nov. 1st! It will probably be in our front window facing the street. I feel like a real goober. Does anyone bitch louder than me about stores having Xmas crap on display in August? No. I may have to turn in my Malcontent Card. ---

I absolutely believe it is totally disrespectful to Thanksgiving to put up Christmas decorations prior to December 1. My lovely wife prefers to decorate early and often. We have reached the compromise that her decorating can begin before the actual turning of the calendar page to December, but not until the Thanksgiving leftovers have been consumed or, in some cases, tossed.
