Ook-tober Mini-rants

I used to be like this until my back and right leg went out with a vengeance last year and I am just minimally functional on all levels these days.

I’ve learned to tell myself that resting is my work for the day. After numerous conversations with myself it appears to be settling in.

The HOA requires this to be done every two years I think. This was the year the previous owners were supposed to do it.

The HOA mentioned just sending either an invoice or a picture of the cleaned deck so I think the staining is optional depending on the condition. It’s not really clear.

I doubt I can find someone to only clean it right now. As the contractor pointed out, it’s pointless to clean it in October when it’s right under a goddamn tree.

Motherfucker. Now the furniture store called.

They told us 6-8 weeks and the wait is killing me, we have a single chair in the living room, this is week 8. Well guess what? They had some manufacturing issue so the new estimate is another three weeks.

Not my day.

Hire someone to gently powerwash it.

That’s how my daughter felt when she had a kidney stone.

Same. It felt like the worst constipation of my life and also back pain. At least the first time.

Not what I want to hear right now!

I’m doing okayish. I’ll probably return to work tomorrow. My stomach definitely still feels weird but I’m capable of moving around so I guess, whatever.

Then I can tell you with lots of experience that is certainly not a kidney stone, unless you passed it, and if it was bad enough to hurt that much you would have noticed when it passed.

(Passing a stone by the way feels really weird but the actual moment it passes doesn’t hurt at all and you feel a lot better after.)

Since we’re discussing sickness, I came home from a doctor’s visit today and suddenly, out of the blue, felt extremely nauseous and had to struggle hard to not throw up. It only lasted about 15 minutes but the LXW who was with me told me that I had turned pale and was shaking. I suspect a combination of alcohol, stress, and lack of sleep.

One bright note that I think I mentioned before. The LXW really likes her current GP and convinced her to take me on even though she’s not taking on new patients. That’s who I saw today. Very sweet, very thorough and knowledgeable, and old enough to be well experienced. The most impressive part was that despite having a very busy practice she spent about an hour with me on this first visit going over my whole medical history.

Jeebus fucking Christ, does anyone involved in this real estate team have a brain? I explained to my realtor that the large main bedroom has only two heating/cooling vents (plus one in the ensuite) which would be barely adequate except that the closed bed frame completely blocks one of them, so really only one is operational. It’s fine in summer because I don’t like it too cold, but that’s why I have an electric heater in winter.

She knows all this. So when she became enamoured of a couple of old antique dressers in the basement, guess where she had the boys place one of the big long ones? RIght, directly over the last remaining fucking heating vent! Which also conveniently blocks the outlet that I had the electric heater plugged into. What are these people thinking? That thing is being moved tomorrow, or else!

One of the last customers of the night, it wasn’t even the driver being an ass, it was

:musical_note: scrubs

hanging out of the passenger side

of his best friend’s ride

trying to holler at me :musical_notes:

I slammed that drive-theu window shut & muttered darkly under my breath, “Call me baby one more fucking time and imma slash your damn tires.”

I was being quiet, but my manager has the ears of a jackrabbit.

“SHOE!!”

“You, uh, weren’t supposed to hear that.”

But they were.

Keep the bastards scared, I say.

You’d think the scrubs would have learned from that song.

I guess the HR director talked to my boss and CEO about me not getting stuff I ask for on time. So now I have a meeting with my boss this afternoon via Teams. I’m home because I’m still not feeling that great. She said she needed to apologize to me so I don’t think I’m in trouble. This is the first time I really feel I stood up for myself. I think having recently won a federal grant made me a little more confident in expressing my dissatisfaction.

Still, this isn’t great timing for a conversation like this. I’m really tired and my stomach is still bothering me. What I need to do is not do what I usually do when someone apologizes. I always say, “It’s okay.” I don’t like to make waves. But that sort of implies no harm really occurred. And I think harm did occur, here. I’m not mad at her but I also want things to change.

It’s been several weeks and our roof is still not fixed. There is still a hole in the bathroom ceiling. The last time the guy visited he said he’d send someone out “today.” That was two weeks ago. With the furniture delay, really since we moved in June we’ve had no living room furniture, the stuff just adds to the general feeling of no control.

I have to get it together, like, mentally, and do what I can do to make an impact here.

At least our old house is finally listed. The listing looks great. I’d buy that house.

Update: Well the meeting with my boss went pretty well. She cried while she apologized to me. She really felt she let me down. She said she’s going to do right by me. I got a chance to talk about how much the consistent lack of follow-through from executive leadership has impacted me. They are going to have a meeting with me to get things on the right track.

I guess going to HR was the right move. I kinda feel like I did a thing for myself. I stood up for myself and it paid off. So maybe I should do it more often.

Ridiculousness is not just from HOAs anymore, I’ve known several people getting cancellation threats from their homeowner’s insurance companies for such things as too much moss on the roof, cluttered yards, and not watering lawns. The most ridiculous just recently happened to my bro/sis inlaws where they got a notice from their insurance company that they were leaving their garage door open for too long periods of time. Supposedly creating an invite risk to vandals and destructive animals.

It was. Good for you. I mean that sincerely. A lot of people will never take that step, and you had the fortitude to do so.

My real estate agent is a real sweetie and it turned out that the whole thing was a miscommunication between her and the burly men who placed the dressers. But I had them move them around today anyway and the vents and outlets are now free of obstruction and the placement is very elegant..

The whole downstairs is cleaned and repainted and shines like a new dime. My two old couches are in the dump and the family room now boasts an impressive $5000 couch on loan from the realtor, a silk chair on loan from the LXW, and will shortly have artwork installed on the freshly pristine walls. I’m starting to feel a little better. But the upper level still needs work and ultimately I still have to move and it’s still very distressing I’m still gonna start popping Prozac!

How does the insurance company know that? Have they signed up for some sort of monitoring to in theory get them a lower rate?

??? How and why is the insurance company monitoring this? Don’t they have better things to do with worker time?

That is freaking creepy.

Do insurance companies have access to doorbell camera systems?
