Oooh! Steampunk Stuff!

MrDibble: Thanks.

All others: thank you for your patience with my hijack as well. This has been a test of the Terrifel Breakdown System. Had this been an actual breakdown, the hijack you just heard would have been followed by information in MPSIMS regarding the odor of wax and anecdotes of being beaten about the head at work.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Ron Goulart did Prisoner Of Blackwood Castle, both Gaslamp Fantasy, and a Prisoner Of Zenda [del]ripoff[/del] tribute.

Amusingly, at the movie rental place today I stumbled upon a peculiar-looking little offering called Time Changer, which at first glance appeared to be nothing more than an direct-to-video knockoff of The Time Machine (and was in fact produced at the same time as the 2002 remake). The box art was unremarkable, though it did feature such promising details as a brass chronometer dial and a guy wearing goggles. However, on closer examination the movie appears to be some sort of Christian moralistic diatribe:

Yes, not only does this production feature Captain Steubing from The Love Boat, but also bit parts by Barney Miller (Hal Linden) and stand-up comic Paul Rodriguez (whom I’m guessing doesn’t play one of the characters from 1890). IMDb advises that the top-billed actor, D. David Morin, also starred in Jesus 2000, which was presumably a direct-to-video Christian knockoff of Cherry 2000.

Even though I have no doubt it’s one of those “so-bad-it’s-unwatchable” films, I’m still mildly tempted to rent it the next time I get one of those “free rental” coupons in the mail, if for no other reason than to find out how a Bible college developed its own time machine, or why they use it to send unpublished authors into the future rather than to explore actual Biblical events like the Resurrection or the Second Coming or whatever.

I could swear that there was a thread about this flick, but I couldn’t find it with a hamster flail. I did, however, find the official website of the film. You can watch the trailer for the film there. I wouldn’t recommend it, but you can do it.

 Are you beating the hamsters to make them run the search engine faster, or using the flail to thresh through posts as you winnow your search?

Both! (I’m a harsh taskmaster.)

Now if only I could buy the watches listed on that first link. There are one or two that are interesting enough for me to want, but still practical enough to wear.

Indeed, Sir.
Rodents and Data cower at your approach.

I’m a machinist, so depending upon which one you’re interested in, we might be able to work something out, if you’re interested.

Another nifty steampunk site.

Gah! Eighty-something posts and nobody’s mentioned Privateer Press yet?

… makers of Iron Kingdoms: Warmachine?

… ponderous steam-powered walking machines duking it out at the behest of their Warcaster masters?

I thought it was a great idea, but I have too many Space Marines left to paint to get into yet another miniatures game.

While poking around on the intarwebs for something totally unrelated, I stumbled upon some more cool stuff.

Steampunk motorcycles, most of which can be ridden!

Eyeglasses!

Goggles, spiders and other things!

More steampunk watches.

Interview with the artist that makes them.

DIY steampunk supplies.

Who ya gonna call? Steampunkers!

Ah, they’re steampunk death rays.

Mmmm. Art Deco sexbots!

Steampunk interior decorating.

Jewelry and goggles, with a bit too much flashy, flashy on the site.

Just a little something I actually managed to remember, mostly because of the fantastic artwork—Steam Wars.

On top of that, the site creator’s name happened to catch my eye—it’s none other than Larry Blamaire, of The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra fame.

Small world, ain’t it?

Well, since this is vaguely related (okay, more like almost related)…
I finally found some of those clock gears I was looking for on eBay, and I’ve made some cool things with bits and pieces of clock movements and pocket watches.

(Wow, those eyglasses are cool!)

Neat stuff! Did you just buy gears or did you buy some junked clocks and tear them apart?

I bought some clock movements that were in bad shape (missing parts, little bit of rust), and some pocket watches in various conditions. I’ve completely taken apart the clock movements, and the lot of pocket watch stuff included some pieces that were already taken apart. Soon I should have the necessary itty-bitty screwdrivers to take them apart the rest of the way.

Ooooh! An aerial torpedo model!

They’ve got a whole page of steam punk models. Also some stuff that’s not specifically steam punk, but some of it could fit right in. As could these zeppelins!
And IMHO, the second car on this page looks like it’d be right at home in a steam punk film (especially if it had some kind of death ray mounted on it).
