I can’t believe you’d mention those commercials and not mention those GODDAMN FUCKING “LIKE A ROCK” ADS! CHRIST JESUS! If I hear that song one more fucking time while I watch some stupid truck drive over rocks that have obviously been fastened to the set I’m going to buy a .30-06 just so I can shoot my TV set out. Bob Seger will suck chimp dicks in hell for recording that song. And another one I hate is the “Ford Focus” commericial. It’s not enough that the Focus is the ugliest goddamned car since that dog car in “Dumb and Dumber” - they have to torture us with those commercials with idiot models driving European versions of the car around stinking European cities while that irritating woman-pop-corporate song plays about how if you drive your mass-produced-and-marketed Ford Focus you’re a revolutionary on par with Thomas Jefferson. ---

Armenia did become independent after the break-up of the old Soviet Union. Since then, it has be sort of having an on-again, off-again war with Azerbaijan over the Nagorno Karabach region, which makes the European news media from time-to-time. The capital is Yerevan (?sp). I beleive that there are also significant Armenian-speaking populations in Iran and Iraq, which may have led to the confusion with Farsi. If you’d asked me, though, I would have guessed that most of the people leaving the region to settle in the USA would have been Kurds, who would presumably be Kurdish speakers. ---

There has been a HUGE influx of foreign IT people to the area, especially Indians and Chinese. Hell, 10 of the last 10 job applicants I had were Indian or Chinese nationals, not that I care any but I’m just saying the cultural landscape in southern JoCo is changing rapidly, and that is what I believe Homer is noticing most. And only the Indians seem to be able to speak English very well - one fellow from Bangalore that worked with me for a year put my knowledge of English to shame. And before you start clicking the “flame” button - their language skills mean nothing to me except for customer service/client relations jobs. A person who’s 20% fluent in English talking to a client from Mississippi results in serious client frustration, and lost work. So we hire them for purely programming jobs and offer to pay for training in English. ---
