Trying to suppress noise restricts the breathing, and makes things less enjoyable. I would guess this applies to men, too. ---

I’m pretty quiet during the big O. I mean, there’s _some_ moaning and heavy breathing, to be sure, but nothing that would disturb the neighbors or anything. And up until that moment, I’m all but silent (except for the low-volume dirty talk; I mean in terms of moans and groans). I think I was partly conditioned to have quiet sex: all of my early hook-ups took place either in a dorm (couldn’t let the roommates hear), at or right after a party (couldn’t let the other “guests” hear), or in someone’s parent’s house (no way in hell could they hear). Mostly, though, I think it’s just how I am. And I’ve been with all kinds of men, both louder than and even quieter than me. Also, while I applaud **Anastasaeon** ’s efforts to explain what having sex feels like, please let’s everyone keep in mind that she’s explaining what it feels like for _her_. Not every vagina experiences sex the same way; not everyone feels compelled to gasp when being thrust into. [mini-rant] Why do people still generalize about stuff like this? :smack: I don’t have anything against the OP specifically, quite the contrary actually, it just seems like every time a thread like this comes up (“why do women do x,” “why don’t men like x”) most of the replies consist of “well, it’s not true for me/my boyfriend/my aunt’s cousin’s sister.” How many times do we need to be told that there are no absolutes, especially when it comes to sex? That there is no ONE thing that all women/men do, or that all straight/gay people like, or that all sheep enjoy (except **Hal** , of course)? Come on, people! Work with me! [/mini-rant] ---

Hmm. If I hold my breath when I’m getting close to coming, it gives me a headache. I am only (relatively) quiet when I am masturbating somewhere where less volume of sound would be advisable. (Dorm memories crowd my brain.) My natural inclination is to make noise. And so I do. I moan, I gasp, I talk. On occasion, I have been known to growl. Making some sound seems to enhance the orgasm for me. All the men I have been with have been noisy to some degree. The only person who was really quiet happened to be a woman. I was pretty sure I was doing things right, but I couldn’t go by the noises she made. 😃 **Giant\_Spongess,** heh.
