My father taught me something very valuable when I was learning how to drive. When you use the key to unlock the trunk, LEAVE THE KEY IN THE KEYHOLE. Don’t take it out, because you WILL put it down…in the trunk. Nowadays, of course, all the cars have a trunk popper knob, but back in the day, the only way to open a trunk was with the key. ---

At work, we swipe an employee access card to get into the building. Last week, the damn thing wasn’t working, and I was swiping my card every which way and NOTHING … oh, because I was swiping my zoo membership card at it. The best is that while I was standing there without access, I was mentally composing a Strongly Worded Email to the head of security about how crappy the card readers are. ---

I try to click the middle button on my PC mouse at work because I’m used to it making all my running programs come up on my Mac at home. I really wish PCs had that functionality. 🙂 ---

Most of the equipment where I work is touch-screen. So’s my phone. I keep finding myself jabbing at my laptop screen and my Kindle, and just ending up with a big old smeary fingerprint. ---

There was the time I freaked right the heck out when I woke up suddenly and raced out to the living room to see, out the window, our car leaving the driveway. I screamed for my husband, then I realized he was actually in the car leaving for work and it wasn’t getting stolen \>\_\< ---

We have id cards to get in and out of the building. These come with a clear plastic frame you can use to clip the id card onto your belt or to a lanyard. The card is also used to access our work computers; you take it out of the plastic frame and slide in into a little slot on the side of the computer. More than once at the end of the day, I’ve taken the card out of the computer slot and stuck it in my pocket, then walked to the building exit and fwapped the empty plastic frame down on the panel on the security gate repeatedly, wondering why it won’t let me out. ---

I wanted to make a small pot roast and some potatoes and carrots in the slow cooker yesterday. If I put everything in and set the cooker on low before I go to work, dinner will be ready when I get home. I found out last night that that slow cookers don’t work unless they are turned on. No problem, I’ll just cook it overnight and have pot roast for breakfast. I realized this morning that a slow cooker set on low for ten hours doesn’t work if its not plugged in. ---

Reminds me of a tip: when choosing a card to pry open a locked door, choose one that can stand to be scratched, not your ATM card which will need to be replaced. ---

Tip: When adding dishsoap and hot water to a pan that needs to be soaked prior to washing, make sure you’ve taken the food you want to eat out of the pan first. :smack: ---
