I most certainly don’t think it requires a mental defect to get a visual image of a deer eye when hearing the phrase buckeye. It doesn’t matter where she lives, only what she has experienced, to influence what a word triggers in her mind’s eye. I most certainly think she behaved in a bad manner right off the bat, but that has nothing to do with nobody here admitting that a person can mentally picture a deer eye and be OK. It ruins some of the vitriol in this thread to admit that. ---

“I have a recipe for buckeyes that I’d love to foreward to you.” “OMG, DON’T SAY BUCKEYES! IT’S GROSS!” Yeah. Opal is being the level-headed one here. This smacks of offenderattiism. Are we not allowed to refer to any foodstuff around her which might sound vaguely like it might have once been part of some sort of living being? She didn’t need to be such a snatch in condemning the term “buckeye” like it was a personal insult to her. ---

Yeah, you’ve got a point there. Although they did have prominent pupils, which the buckeye nuts in your link did not. Is there something that looks like a flattened buckeye nut? I’ve got memories of something about that diameter, burnt umber in color, with a light spot, but flatter and indented. ---

It’s a name that many people use for the foodstuff. The first guy gave the name of the snack- buckeyes. If she didn’t like his recipe she could use the name to search out other recipes and find one she liked. And, when she typed in the name if she was unhappy she could easily pretend the B is a an F and noone would be the wiser and she would be happy to find many recipes. I don’t know if I would start a pit thread over it. But, I don’t see how the other guy acted like a jerk at all. ---

It’d be like (almost) if she asked for possible baby names, someone suggested “Derek,” and she freaked out because it sounds like [Derrick](http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=derrick), which came into English after being the name of an especially busy hangman. It’s such a distant connection, I have to wonder why someone would pitch such a fit. Seriously. If 1,000 people were to see a tray of Buckeyes, ready to eat, 999 would think of the nut, because they really do look like the nut. Only 1 person would hearken back to a buck’s eye. And to then go the extra mile and assume it’s a severed eye of a dead deer, rather than just something that looks like a deer’s eye… My mind boggles at such tortuous logic. ---

I have often wondered if my mentioning I am from India is annoying, and I do watch and see if people complain. I have changed some of my other behaviors because people complain. Some people adjust their MO. Some people think - oh, I never even realized I was doing that! Some people think they’re too special. ETA: It’s not really just about the goddamn buckeye, and you are being disingenous at the very least to say it is. Like others have said, it’s the last straw.
