She is asking about something specific, why does she have to be overly gentle in picking and choosing which responses fit? And you know what? She’s been using her vegetarianism as an excuse for attention whoring and immense rudeness for a hell of a long time. Way back when, at one of the mega-NYC Dopefests, my brother hosted a Sunday brunch. Bagels and lox were served. Dominic wandered over to the table, looked at the lox, and called across the room to Opal: “what’s this?” She hollered back, **":eek::eek::eek: DON’T TOUCH THAT!!! IT’S MEEEEEEAAAAAAAT!!! :eek::eek::eek:**" It was so incredibly rude the way she handled that. If she doesn’t want her kid to eat fish, fine. No problemo. But she loudly let everyone know that something her host had served was so disgusting and offensive to her that she had to protect her child from it. I just couldn’t believe it. People here often complain about the “offenderati,” but they can never define who exactly are included in this group. Well, I realize now that we do have one unequivocal member of the offenderati: **OpalCat**. ETA: People have been mentioning something about begging for money on the internet to get plastic surgery. I must have missed something. Would someone kindly enlighten me? ---

If I say I’m sorry about something, I’m not _expressing_ my remorse for reasons already stated. But I _am_ stating, truthfully, that I am remorseful. I don’t see what would be insincere about that. Think of a person who, for whatever reason, does not reflexively exclaim when he is in pain. But he comes to notice that, when he is hurt, people are much more responsive to him when he says something like “Ouch,” in a certain tone. (If he says it conversationally, they don’t respond of course. So he has to say it “like he means it.”) So he has a policy of wincing, and acting like he is in pain, when and only when he is in pain. When he does this, he’s not expressing his pain in the way you and I do. But he is truthfully indicating that he is in pain, using the language (broadly construed) he knows is the right language to indicate that fact. So then, of course, he is not insincerely drawing attention to his hurt condition when he says “ouch” and winces and hops around and so on–though it _is_ all something of a put-on, in a sense, since none of it comes naturally to him! Moreover, when others are in pain and are wincing and saying “ouch” and so on, he himself often thinks in the back of his mind even as he is running over to help “Why in the world does he move around like that? Why not just explain calmly what happened?” But he knows that’s just how people are, and he knows there is in fact something wrong with _him_, and so he appropriately doesn’t act overtly on these kinds of thoughts usually (except maybe when waxing philosophical and confessional) and instead just runs over to help. With me and apologies, its something like that. ---
