Like **Diogenes** , I’m not that familiar with **OpalCat** , but I did notice in a recent thread (the ring one, I think?) she responded to some similar criticisms by saying she isn’t capable of gushing over people, that it wouldn’t be natural coming from her. But, the thing is, a simple “thank you” isn’t gushing, it’s just common courtesy. If THAT isn’t natural, then that’s kind of sad. ---

If Opal’s feelings about buckeyes are anything like my feelings about The Hideous Pattern, I forgive her completely. Maybe it just makes her brain go crazy. I mean, it’s a message board, we’re all randomly telling each other weird shit all the time. What grinds my gears is her lack of appreciation for getting the help requested. ---

Ok, I just took a look at the necklace thread, [here](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=482315). I can definitely see why this buckeye thread would spawn annoyance given the history. **Opal** ’s responses in the buckeye thread were weird and oversensitive, but in the necklace thread they were just plain rude. If you ask for advice, and someone takes the time and effort to present you with an option, even if you don’t think it will work, you say ‘‘thank you.’’ Going out of your way to say, ‘‘No, that idea sucks because my needs are special’’ is something else entirely, and that’s exactly the vibe I’m getting. Despite people’s repeated attempts to satisfy her, the only ‘‘thank you’’ she uttered was in response to congratulations on her engagement, which supports the idea that this was the real motivation of creating the thread. Goodness knows we’re all attention whores, but I’d be more likely to create a thread entitled ‘‘ **Oh my freaking god I just got engaged I’m awesome!** ’’ and at least be up-front about it. I don’t have anything against **Opal** personally–she seems quite interesting as a human being–but the more I think about this the more irritated I get. There’s no reason to be so high-maintenance, and if you are going to be that high-maintenance, you should at least be polite about it. ---

I think some of the people here much prefer to call someone a bitch/asshole in a public forum so everyone knows how superior they are to the person being pitted than actually try to encourage thoughtful conversation. ---

For many people here I \*do \*think this latest thread is the last straw. I did not find the response in the main linked thread nearly as egregious as DtC but maybe that is because I was waiting for that type of response, whereas DtC was not, having not been accustomed to the typical Opal Response.I will admit a feeling of “thank god somebody said it because I’m too chicken to poke at an SDMB sacred cow” and had often wondered if I was imagining it. Honestly, when I see a thread started by Opal asking for help or advice I avoid it like the plague because I know not to even try. It’s a shame too because there is good advice to be had in this community. Unfortunately no one here wants to piss on her if she’s on fire because she would just bitch at you for dropping your pants the wrong way. ---
