On the other hand, while there is no precise denotation of the term “leftist” or “liberal”, there are common connotations, which seem to vary from country to country. Probably the most influential connotation in the US is the idea that the Democratic party is “left” or “liberal”. So in the US the most prevalent connotation, the mainstream connotation if you will, is the position of the mainstream of the Democratic party. A moving target to be sure, and hardly all-encompassing, but any point of reference is more useful than having to spend a day or two hammering out what “leftist” or “liberal” will mean for any given conversation. It means occasionally people will talk past each other, a la Coulter, but common connotations of undefinitively denoted concepts is what allows the conversation to happen in the first place. Plus, reasonable people on both sides are capable of working out their differences if it becomes apparent they are using connotations too far removed from each other. Enjoy, Steven ---

The real problem is recruiting a Queen. A lot of women are kind of excited at the prospect of being Queen, until they discover it means putting out a couple of thousand progeny per day after getting laid exactly once. Enthusiasm drops off. ---
