What’s the quickest way to accomplish this? There’s gotta be a keyboard shortcut or a menu item to do this, but damned if I can find it by poring through Firefox’s menus, googling, or trial and error.

Shift-click opens a link in a new window, so shift-enter in the address bar seems like an obvious way to open that url in a new window, but that seems to just reload the window.

I’m getting really annoyed by this, especially because I swear I had it figured out at some point. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Double-click on the tab.

That doesn’t work.

And I should have added that I’m using Firefox 1.0 with MacOS 10.3.9.

I’ve been avoiding the Tabbrowser Extension, because it’s supposed to be pretty buggy, and I don’t really want most of the features.

I mean, I can always double-click the address bar, hit Command-C, Command-N, double click in the new address bar, hit Command-V and enter, and that works . . . Just seems like there ought to be and easier way.

Come to think of it, I’ve got the Tabbrowser Extensions installed.

Does holding control when you click the link do it? It might be a TabBrowser thing…

Does Command-L work to select the location bar like it does on Windows? On Windows I can do what you suggest with ctrl-L ctrl-C ctrl-N [ctrl-L] ctrl-V Enter (the second ctrl-L not really necessary since the new window has the location bar active), avoiding the mouse entirely; but I don’t have ready access to a Mac to try that out. I can also drag tabs into new windows, but I’m not sure if that’s a feature in base Mozilla or in TBE (which I have installed).

I’ve been using the Tabbrowser Extension forever, on Windoze and Linux, and never had a problem with it. What bugs are you talking about?

Install [this](https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=28) extension. Then you can do it from the menu, or from a keyboard shortcut.

The ones the author to posts about on his own [website](http://piro.sakura.ne.jp/xul/tabextensions/tradeoff.html.en#myopinion):

**Omphaloskeptic** , thanks much! I didn’t know about Ctrl-L. That does indeed work.

**Peter** , I’ll check out your extension, but the Firefox website won’t even let me access the page until I’ve upgraded to the latest version.

Okay, got it! Thanks, **Peter Morris.** That’s exactly what I needed! The Merge Window command looks like it will be userful, too. Plus, your link made me realize that there was something wrong with my automatic check-for-updates thingamajiggie, so I’m no longer 0.0.6 versions behind.

**Omphaloskeptic** , I should add that when I bring up a new window, the focus isn’t on the address bar, unfortunately. I definitely can’t drag and drop tabs, so that must be a TBX thing. But that Command-L thing is sure gonna come in handy!

Likewise. I think most of it stems from the author himself giving it a right bagging on his website.

**Middle-click** ( click the scroll wheel) to open link in a new tab.

“Ctrl-T” works for me!
Also right click and “new tab.”
