I would normally post this in the Opera forums, but it’s such a mish-mash there, I never know where to best post. My question is (I think) a simple one. I’d like to put, in my top bar, a button for my mail, and, if possible, a button for the ‘empty spam’ function. I know I’ve built a button before, but I have no recollection how to do it, or if there’s simply a way to move the mail button from the side pannel to the top one. It’s really a matter of convenience for me, so if folks know what I should be doing, I’d be greatful to hear about it. Thanks a lot!

Right click on an empty bit of any toolbar – select **Customize**
Select **Buttons** tab – select which catagory of buttons you’re after eg **Mail** – drag and drop the button you want to the place want it to be

(check “show hidden toolbars” on the **toolbars** tab if the bar isn’t showing)

Excellent, excellent start! Now, is there a way to make a ‘empty spam / empty trash’ button for my browser bar?

Go to [this page](http://operawiki.info/CustomButtons#mail) click on **Empty Spam** button (under “Mail Related Buttons”) – confirmation box should ask if you want to add the button to your **My Buttons** tab, drag from there
Repeat with any other buttons that take your fancy

There are links to help you create your own buttons too, but I’ve no idea how easy that is. Most buttons you’re likely to need seem to be already there

Okay, one more question for el capitan- I’ve just started up on a new computer. I know many moons ago someone explained to me how to get my bookmarks to show up without that annoying little row of buttons on the left side of the browser showing up (thus saving some screen space). I’ve lost whatever esoteric knowledge that was, although I remember it being relatively simple. Any advice?

On mine, there’s a little triangle halfway down on the left edge of the screen. It’s really, really small. Click that, and that pane will dis/reappear. Is that what you are after?

When I do that, my bookmarks vanish as well. Not sure how to keep them about.

Sorry, I mis-understood what you wanted. You can try right clicking that panel, it gives you some options, but I don’t know if any of that will give you what you’re after.
