As a tourist, Wal-Mart is king for me and my family. When we do the Orlando/Parks stuff, we stay in Kissimmee and go to WM.
- Open 24 hrs.
- Great prices
- Fuckin’ everything
Exactly what I need.

Ya know, there should be demographics for SDMB users somewhere, but I can’t find it. The point I was trying to make is that the demographics of Target and Wal-mart are not so far apart, except in the case of region.
Guys, if you’re looking for single ladies, it looks like Target is your place!
True. And for us older gents, it looks like Kmart is Cougar Country, leading the pack among “Divorced” and “Widowed” shoppers, while still being almost 60% female. And better, from the guy’s point of view, you’re more likely to just shack up as a Kmart shopper, saving you all those nasty divorce expenses when you’re sick of SO #2 (or 3, or 4.)
Or, Target has twice as many people in the $150k+ bracket - that’s huge. There is a significant crossover at about $50k between WalMart and Target shoppers as they become a little less price conscious. Target has 5 points on female shoppers - that is a huge number.
Those are big numbers for retail analysis - where a point or two makes a big difference. You don’t see far apart - I see a huge difference in WalMart and Target shoppers looking at those numbers. Which crosses over into what they carry. Target shoppers have more disposable income, are more likely to be female and single (hence the more fashion forward clothing and home good appropriate for decorating an apartment). WalMart shoppers are more likely to be married, with smaller disposable incomes, and more likely to be male. My Target has one aisle of automotive goods and a really bad hardware section unless you are a single woman looking for a hammer and a nail to hang up the very hip wall art Target sells. My WalMart isn’t worth looking at for home decorating - they have it, but is more desperation decorating - but you can buy a decent hammer and some nails.
