I know - the “haha, can you even imagine me being out of shape or unattractive! ME! As if!” thing is kind of…odd. It’s very judgmental and insulting to random people that you don’t even know. It definitely fits into the impression I have of bodybuilder types as being self-involved and judgy.
FWIW, I think that’s part of the reason bodybuilding gets judged somewhat harshly as a hobby. It’s not so much the time and effort a person puts into it (or the fact that frankly I find the results unappealing), it’s the fact that many of the participants seem to be the kind of touchy, humourless jerks who look down on anyone who’s not up to their standards. Of course not everyone involved in it is like that, but it applies often enough that it is going to come to mind when you see someone who’s all muscly and covered in brown goo.
It is comparable to the beauty pageant circuit - I’m sure there’s a lot of preparation and effort involved in being a beauty queen (diets, waxing, tanning, etc, etc), but the end result is not something I particularly admire. It’s a stereotype, but there’s a reason pageant girls are seen as vapid and shallow - because the ‘sport’ encourages only the praising of outward attractiveness. Like the bodybuilders, I’m sure not all pageant girls fit that mould, but it’s going to come up in peoples first impressions. Confirming their impressions with public comments is not going to help the impression.

That “first pic” was not even posted by me. Someone else posted it. Enough with that shit. I do not judge overweight people. Period. I judge people who enter into bodybuilding competitions without ever doing any work. Period. And to compare beauty pageants to bodybuilding competitions is so ridiculous its laughable. Beauty pageants are not physical endeavors. In a beauty pageant, the ugliest motherfucker on stage generally doesn’t have a shot at winning. In a bodybuilding competition, “beauty” is irrelavent. It is the physical achievements that are being judged. The achievements of developing each and every muscle on the body to maximum capacity, while at the same time shedding the maximum amount of bodyfat possible. That is a tremendous achievement, it is not a state that the body is easily persuaded into.

Maybe I missed it but did you talk to him at all to find out how long he’s been training?

You’re not entirely wrong. At beauty pageants that _admit_ they’re beauty pageants, contestants are expected to answer some questions, display a talent, and convey a general air of social aptitude.

Curing cancer is a “tremendous achievement”. Developing muscle and shedding body fat \*for aesthetic purposes \*makes you a beauty queen.

I"m assuming you put it on Facebook (unless someone else can post pictures to your FB account, I don’t use it so I really don’t know) and you made the “fat piggie” comment. To those of us here in the cheap seats, that sounds a whole lot like judging him for being, well, fat.
Would you have made that snarky a comment about him if he had been slim but not really muscular? Had muscular arms/chest but a little pot belly?

Edited: nevermind, didn’t read to closely. I’d still cut him a WEE bit of slack for the joke, considering someone accused him of actually being that guy.

That’s so funny Jamie, because I have seen many beauty pageants and I don’t seem to ever recall seeing an overweight woman ever winning a pageant at a high level of compitition like Miss USA or Miss Universe. It seems to me that all the women who compete in these pageants also have a high standard of fitness, but the emphasis is different. In bodybuilding, muscle development is important, while in beauty pageants lean figures with curves in all the right places is the ideal. In either scenario, I don’t think those ideal body-types come naturally to most people. And you must be equally as ignorant about beauty pageants as you accuse some of us of being about bodybuilding if you think that pageant contestants don’t spend many hours obssessed with working out in the gym and strictly monitoring their diets. I can tell you for most women, obtaining a figure like Vanessa Williams is an equally tremendous achievement as bulking up and looking like Arnold in his youth would be for most men.

You quoted me talking about the first pic but I’m assuming you are talking about the bodybuilding guy. He had never been training. I’m assuming he was using this competition as his “launching pad” to get his into the sport. He’s never competed since. :rolleyes:

Sorry, but once you’ve called someone ‘little fat piggy’ I think your non-judgmental ship has sailed. I know, I know, you were justified by your anger and your righteous indignation and all, but using that language shows what you really think. We are defined by the way we act in our annoyed moments as much as we are defined by any other behaviour. Again, I don’t care that you said he shouldn’t have been there - you may well be right - but i object to you calling a complete stranger that on a public forum. You seem to not to understand the distinction between these two statements.
Also, you certainly did post that other guys MySpace and chortle about how hilarious it would be if you looked like that. Again, you may feel justified (it was just a joke!), but that doesn’t make it judgment-free.

Getting it off is probably the worst part of all. You gotta scrub, and scrub and scrub. And then scrub some more. And use heavy duty soap, like LAVA or something similar. Usually it takes a few days before it’s completely gone. However, after the first day it kinda just looks like a really deep tan.

I’m sorry, I am simply incapable of genuinely smiling on cue. Someone earlier accused me of being disingenuous when I said this, since I was referring to pictures that I took myself; but I don’t see how this changes anything. I still am having a picture taken. I still am aware of the camera, so I still get the “camera willies” that ruin my smile. My genuine smile is one thing, catching it in a picture is a whole different animal.
