Opinions on BellSouth Long Distance?

In my search to reduce my long distance bill, I’m considering switching to BellSouth LD. They are also my local service provider. (A cell phone is not an option for me at the current time.)

They have a plan that is the in-state calling plan, with all in state long distance calls billed at $0.25/call up to an hour. Each additional hour is another $0.25. There is a monthly fee of $9.95/month (yikes) and any out of state LD calls are $0.12/minute. Most of my LD calls are in-state to family - it’s rare that I make an out of state LD call. I’d lose the “single bill” fee on my current statement that I get because my Sprint LD calls are included on my monthly BellSouth bill, but I do know I’d keep the Universal Service fee.

I’ve recalculated the last few month’s bills and it looks like I’d save an average of $11/month, even with the increased monthly fee.

But I’d like to know if anyone has had experience with BellSouth LD - are there any problems with the service? Good things about it? Opinions in general?
