# Opossums: Cute, or ugly?

No, King wrote the X-Files episode about the killer doll in Maine. Home was written by the series’ regular writers.

They are horrid creatures, and I’m a friend to all beasts. There’s just something _wrong_ about a possum, just like centipedes and lampreys and slugs and candiru fish – there are certain animals which are just plain _awful_.

So years ago I used to volunteer at a wildlife rehab center. It was a great experience, especially during the spring when we’d get all the baby animals. Baby opposums are the cutest damn things in existence. When we cleaned out their cage, those of us with longer hair would put a baby or two on our shoulder and they’d wrap their little tails around our ear and hide in our hair. Probably wasn’t the best as far as keeping human exposure to a minimum but they felt more secure like that. Loved it myself lol. The adults were cute in their own way but here’s a useless fact. When you hold adults, you hold them by the base of the tail. And when you let go, your hand smells like ass…worse than ass…for hours. The more you know.

How do you teach them to run away from humans, instead of running to someone looking for a treat and being shot?
