I’ve never watched Oprah. But the little I know of her, I admire and respect her. She started from nowhere and got somewhere.
It’s her show, as as been pointed out. It’s up to her. I think she might make mincemeat of Mrs. Palin, and it might benefit Mr. Obama if she did, but’s up to her.
I honestly don’t understand the venom directed at Oprah. I hear it all the time: “Who does she think she is?” If you don’t like Oprah, don’t watch Oprah. If enough people don’t watch her, her show will go off the air.
If she can stick to her guns and not have any candidates on her show, she’s probably doing the wise thing.
Amazing how many righties are all of a sudden in favor of the Fairness Doctrine. What a bunch of crybabies. I also didn’t realize how many people were forced to watch Oprah at gunpoint. I was under the impression that if you didn’t like a show you didn’t have to watch it.
You know, she hasn’t had Joe Biden on the show either. I don’t hear anybody whinging about that.
You really think those fans didn’t already know where she stands politically, given that she…you know…publicly endorsed Barack Obama?
I would bet that most of the people posting on that page are not regular Oprah fans but just whiny-ass righties trolling the website.
Of course her fans know. What I’m trying to say is that Oprah might be surprised at those messages, which imply support not just for fairness in broadcasting but for Sarah Palin and, by extension, McCain-Palin. I think that Oprah thinks that her fans embrace everything she espouses. They certainly buy the books, and that Secret crap was at the top of Amazon’s best seller list for months.
Have you seen her show? The audience is robotic in their responses. Oprah laughs, they laugh. Oprah cries, they cry. Nobody responds to anything until they see how Oprah responds. If she did indeed lose audience because of her endorsement of Obama, it had to give her a jolt.
I don’t see what fairness has to do with anything. Oprah’s not a news show. She doesn’t have to be fair. In point of fact, though, it would actually be unfair to have palin on when she hasn’t had any other candidate on (she has not had Obama on since 2006). Why should Palin get special treatment? because she’s a woman?
And like I said, I doubt that most of those people are regular fans anyway.
Are the instigators regular Oprah board posters and fans, or are they outsiders? Are they more worked up over this than they are about other stuff? (Oprah board posters - the few times I’ve been over there - seem to get worked up easily - its like dropping a creationist thread in Great Debates here).
I don’t know if those posters are regulars or shills. The few times I’ve read that board, I’ve seen criticism of Oprah’s guests but I’ve never read criticism of Oprah at that site.
