It wasn’t just the ensemble cast; it was the whole environment they were in. Even in the later days of _Outland_, when they brought back most of the characters, it still didn’t have the _Bloom County_ magic. There was no Closet of Anxieties. There was no Dandelion Hill. Gone were the days when a prepubescent mad scientist could clone a dead cat back to life, and that dead cat could go on to run for President. I guess that _Outland_ was more cynical, while _Bloom County_ was more… Blissful? Naïve? Simple? Whatever it was, it was the strength of the strip, and _Outland_ didn’t have it. ---
