My [orchestra](http://www.richmondphilharmonic.org/index.htm)\* has a concert tomorrow. On the menu, we have Sibelius’s Finlandia, Weber’s Clarinet Concerto in F Minor, Beethoven’s 3rd Symphony (aka “Eroica”, but in my head I call it “Erotica”). I just joined this orchestra three weeks ago, so I’ve been practicing like a good little violist almost every day. Erotica has got to be the toughest piece I’ve ever played before. My bowing arm is going to be a noodle by the end of the night…but dammit if it’s not a beautiful symphony!! It makes me want to be Beethoven’s baby momma. I know there are some other orchestral peoples on the board. What are ya’ll playing? \*If you’re in the Richmond area, you’re invited to come and see us. It’s free! ---

I don’t do much playing at the moment, just with [these guys](http://www.wolseyorchestra.org/). Couple of weeks ago it was Vaughan Williams’ London Symphony, which is a strange beast, very good in places but IMO hugely flawed in terms of large-scale pacing, and Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, which made me do more practice than I’ve done in a long time! Next concert is the Firebird 🙂 ---

My latest gig was Smetana - 3 dances from Bartered Bride Brahms - Violin Conerto (w/ Kolja Blacher, WOW, google this guy) Borodin - Symphony 2 was my first gig in my new “job” Oshawa Durham Symphony Orchestra (Marco Parisotto, Music Director) A lot of fantastic musicians and great pay! ---

Doing Stravinsky’s _L’Histoire du Soldat_ tomorrow. Chamber concert, yes. Next orchestra gig is Britten’s _Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra_, Copland’s _Quiet City_, and, coincidentally, Beethoven’s Third Symphony. I don’t play in the Copland, though (strings + English horn and trumpet). Strange that two of the pieces are being played or have recently been played by others who just posted! ---

**Violas** in the hizzy!!! 🆒 Hadyn - Symphony No. 86 Mozart - Symphony No. 38 We’re a smaller orchestra. My lesson pieces are a BITCH though. A Hindemith Viola Sonata and a Paganini Caprice.
