I think it might even be another instance where Mr Scruffy is “[doing it backwards](http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0807.html)”, influencing the ranger rather than the reverse. Mr Scruffy wasn’t in Belkar’s dream, Belkar was in the cat’s dream. ---
