Maybe not. It’s certainly true that tree roots can endanger Dwarf homes, maybe causing a cave-in. Tree felling can be dangerous. If a dwarf dies doing it, why shouldn’t it be considered an honourable death?

> Obviously Thor’s mission for Durkon involves the Snarl, but I’m guessing that he’s not allowed to tell him that. Or, well, pretty much anything else.

That was my question when I read that panel. Had to look it up, and it’s like Inner Stickler wrote. Never heard of it before today.

I think you’re right on Thor lying to Durkon, Chronos. I wonder if Thor were to tell him about the Snarl, then a memory-charm effect like in the Oracle’s Sunken Valley would apply, and Durkon wouldn’t remember anything when he went back to the Prime?

I’d assume the gods are happy to engage in any amount of legalism and technicalities to lay claim on the souls.

To be slightly more charitable, if the _dwarf_ believed she was engaged in noble combat, is the death noble? Seems to be [Thor’s argument](http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0874.html).

Bariaur originated in Planescape, I believe. It was fun to see them referenced.

Poking around the interwebs, I see that the powers ascribed to the carbuncle vary a lot. Kudos to Rich for depicting the creature in a non-annoying fashion.

I thought that Roy didn’t remember much of what he learned from his time being dead? So there may be an automatic memory charm there?

I don’t think Thor is lying, per se. Maybe he just didn’t want to talk about the Snarl in front of Minrah. Now that she’s gone we can get a bid ole’ exposition dump.

I’m feeling slow today. Given that Bariaur is a “real” Valhalla creature, is it merely a creature in this use? Or is it a pun on barista, as I originally thought?

I think it’s just there to remind us that they’re not in the same afterlife Roy went to.

He didn’t remember much from his time on Mount Celestia. The stuff while he was out on the clouds he remembered just fine. Durkon still seems to be on the Valhalla version of the clouds; I’d guess the memory blur doesn’t start until he enters Valhalla proper.

Wouldn’t it be great if the dwarves in Valhalla came out to battle to protect reality from Hel at some point? That’s a lot of warrior souls out there who might not mind another chance at kicking some ass.

If (as in the real-world Norse mythos) they’re supposed to be hanging out until the final battle of Ragnarok, fighting to keep Hel from destroying the universe would fit pretty well.

Though who knows? Barista is one of those occupations that I’d think have a greater proportion of pink hair than the norm. I wouldn’t be surprised if it were a pun, and based off someone Burlew sees from time to time.

I’d like to see Minrah hang around too, but the Snarl info seems to be kept really close to the chest, and I think that Alessan may be right in that Thor’s waiting for privacy before breaking out the crayons.

EDIT: I do wonder how much of Durkon’s internal struggle, and what Thor and Minrah told him, he’ll remember when he gets Rez’d.

There are some mortals who know how vampirism works, even if that knowledge is not particularly common. The only way anyone would know that would be from someone who was turned into a vampire and then released/raised, so there must be at least some memory of it.

Or maybe because someone is friends with a vampire, like Tarquin was, and heard it from them. Or maybe a cleric heard it directly from the gods.

Hardly the \*only \*way.
