Never mind…I’m not sure I understand what I thought I understood, if that’s understandable…

Yeah. Eugene Greenhild does not belong in lawful good heaven.

Pretty much guaranteed not to go the way he expects. In online canon, I think his story was he never completed the oath because he got busy with family/lost track of Xykon. This wasn’t entirely true:

The second reason is belied in SOD; an interested party approaches Eugene with details on how to find Xykon and what he’s up to. Eugene rejects him.

Eugene had his interview. He specifically says to Roy’s bureaucratic deva that “[they] all” told him he couldn’t get in because of the Blood Oath.

Not to mention that the interveiw is explicitly shown in SoD.
Finally! A new strip! I don’t care if it’s not terribly informative, just so long as there’s a new strip!

ETA: My brother says that he thinks Vaarsuvius hasn’t woken up because his soul is now with Cedric, Lee and Nero.

Anyone else feel that, even taking his imminent resurrection into account, Roy was acting out of character by dismissing the messenger so quickly? It felt like railroading to me.

I noticed something else. As far as the rest of the Order was concerned, a few minutes ago, Vaarsuvius (who was manifesting major new power) went off with the stated purpose of killing Xykon. Then he returned, wounded but alive, with an apparently rescued O-Chul.

But nobody asked O-Chul the most obvious immediate question - “Did Vaarsuvius succeed in killing Xykon?” That is a pretty obvious deduction to make from the evidence and it’s a vital point of information.

Durkon was busy. Belkar wouldn’t care. Hinjo and Lien missed the departure. And Elan I can understand - with his instinctive grasp of plotting he would know that the main villain wasn’t killed at this point. But you’d expect Haley to ask.

Maybe, but he’s eager to be resurrected, and he’s used to people telling him how evil Belkar is.

O-Chul is being [debriefed](http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0663.html). He is giving a great deal of valuable intelligence regarding their foe, which includes Xykon’s state of health.

No, not at all. He’s done the same thing a number of times in the past. One that springs to mind is his dismissal of the Oracle, trying to warn him which gate Xykon is headed for.

Yeah. Roy’s pretty intelligent and reasonably clever, but he knows it and he can sometimes be arrogant because of it. A little like his father, really.

The question now is whether he has to pass another interview, including his postmortem behavior, if the oath does get fulfilled. If so, he may be in for an unpleasant surprise…

It’s now or never – if the rez spell finishes and he doesn’t come back, the rest of the Order would probably conclude that he refused to return (like Shojo earlier).

That’s true. Although that seemed pretty railroaded also.

But as far as they’re concerned they went directly from [this](http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0650.html) to [this](http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0663.html). If Burlew had done that, we’d all be going crazy with curiousity and immediately demanding to know what happened. Why should the characters be any different?

No one thought that V would _succeed_, no matter how tricked out in cool evil finery. And the sudden reappearance of paralyzed V and scarred O-Chul is not indicative of victory.

“How did you survive?” would be the question wanting answered… and O-Chul doesn’t know (but has a guess, methinks).

Y’know, it occurs to me that really all O-Chul has right now is his briefs. If Hinjo debriefs him, is Haley going to be wanting to check out his Charisma?

Nah. Even in the company of Paladins, Elan likely still has the biggest Charisma.

But in O-Chul’s case, while he has +5 holy cojones, he used charisma as his dump stat.
