The column is [What’s the origin of “fuckin’ A”?](http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/2077/whats-the-origin-of-fuckin-a) But why is it “obviously Canadian”? None of the early sources cited in the column are Canadian, and the most likely explanation (to me) is that the “A” is the letter A, used as a grade for the best or most excellent. ---

In the Navy, it somehow was lengthened to “fuckin’ A tweety bird”. I never could figure it out. ---

Recent threads in another forum make me think it’s a shortened version of “fuckin’ Obama”. He probably started that in 1961 when he planted the fake birth announcement in Hawaii. ---

I always thought it was short for fucking asshole. I shorten asshole to A because I don’t want to cuss.
