I so had wished that Bin Laden would die in a cell at a very ripe old age.

What?!?!?
There have been such rumours before, so I’ll want a bit more confirmation before I start doing the happy dance.
As for an “in a cell” death - I still preferred a “wearing women’s underwear and compromised with a sheep” death.

He’s been reported dead and then turned up alive again so many times he should have his own slasher film franchise. I’m thinking a steel cage match between Osama, Freddy Krueger, Jason Vorhees, Michael Myers, Leatherface, and a few Critters. Hell, I’d buy tickets.

The difference here is that the War on Terror, is unlike any other war. This one is cyclic and will be around for a while. Just like the War on Drugs.
They will always nab Zarqawi’s number two guy, and 6 months later, they will nab his number two guy again. Just like they will always nab a Mexican drug lord, and another is willing to take his place. And he too someday will get nabbed.

Besides, dead or alive, thanks to Bush, Osama’s radical AQ movement is stronger/ more popular than ever than ever, with no real central control and extending practically all over the ME as well as parts of Europe. His death means about as much as the capture of Saddam or the killing of Zarquawi in terms of abating the Iraq clusterfuck and/or the threat of retaliation.

Well, if true, this pretty much means he wins, doesn’t it? Evading the US for this long and dying a natural death was pretty much his “best case sceneario”. Yeah, dead is dead, but the man evaded justice.
And god knows the world isn’t any safer from his ilk.
