Even though I know she’s a long shot, I’m rooting for Carey Mulligan for Best Actress. _Bad Education_ has not played in Thailand yet, but her second cousin lives here in Bangkok, and we hoist a brew or three from time to time. (I mean her second cousin and I do, not she and I.) Her grandmother’s sister is my friend’s mother. ---

I’ve gone from 1st to 5th in the last couple of picks. I’m dropping like a turd in a well. I’ll run the table on the actors, director and movie, but it probably won’t be enough. ---

Argentinian was funny! I wish I knew how to take Steve and Alec–I’m not sure if they’re being dicks to one another or trying to be funny. I loves me some Kathy Bates. WHAT is with the lamp shades that appear upon occasion? ---

Wow. I really kind of want to punch James Cameron in the face. Did anyone else notice the look of sheer and utter disdain when the Argentine was giving his acceptance speech? Not that I think Avatar will win, but now I REALLY hope it doesn’t. What a jerk-face he is. ---

I didn’t like his acceptance speech after Titanic, but I do like the world he created in Avatar (the plot is more than a little weak…) Best Actor! One interesting bit of trivia is that James Cameron was once married to Katheryn Bigelow. I imagine that’s going to feel pretty great to her if she can beat him out for best director. ---

I first saw Jeremy Renner playing Jeffrey Dahmer and was really impressed. I’m not surprised to see him here. His carre is going to really take off now. ---
