I love joining forums like this. I enjoy getting to know people and talking about all kinds of things. Right now I’m only here, commercials I hate, and A Simpsons Tapped out forum. Do any of you know of any other cool forums to join? Hope this is the right catagory ---

I’m a big fan of [Something Awful Forums](http://forums.somethingawful.com/), particularly their subject-specific subforums. The mods are fairly draconian, so don’t be surprised if you get suspended or banned for something incomprehensible, but it keeps the signal to noise level surprisingly high for a forum of that size. ---

There used to be a lot of splinter boards from SDMB, what’s happened to them all? There were Brit, Aussie, some others, I think I’m remembering. (I used to run one for Trek Dopers to give them an outlet when the Dope went Pay-2-Post. I shut it down when P2P ended) [Unaboards](http://unaboard.coalgoddess.net/) is a fun place. Not really an SDMB splinter, as it has unique membership, but a lot of Dopes post there. Does Fathom still exist? I’m having a hard time searching for it. Must need coffee… ---

Sorry for my part in the hijack. I can see why it’s not particularly helpful. I spend time on reddit, too, and I really like the subforums there that I visit. That said, I found that I did have to put in a lot of time at the beginning reading enough to help me separate signal from noise. Once I found the places I was comfortable there, I stick with those 90% of the time and maybe look around the other 10%.
