Less a forum, but my primary online spot has become [FriendFeed](https://friendfeed.com/). Initally set up as a social network, it was purchased by Facebook which has yet to shut it down. Rather than boards, you have a variety of groups on different topics, but can cross-post across them. ---

I used to lurk on the [Snopes](http://message.snopes.com/) forum. It’s been a couple of years since I stopped following it, but if it hasn’t changed then you’ll find some intelligent and fun folk discussing some interesting topics. It’s a mixed bag though. ---

Some geeks I know used to hang out on the xkcd forums - [http://forums.xkcd.com/](http://forums.xkcd.com/) I’ve been known to browse [Whitechapel](http://www.freakangels.com/whitechapel/)from time to time, which was a discussion board for the Freakangels webcomic but is generally quite cool (and still active, even though the comic finished years ago) ---

I’m wondering how certain boards have two ranks. StarTrekBBS is 181 and 182, same number of posters and everything. There were a couple of others like that. ---

The Impreza is a car that lends itself well to modding and has a ton of aftermarket stuff to bolt on. The thing about the impreza is that although a lot of the mods are superficial and really only cosmetic, there are changes you can make to really improve the performance. The WRX is lighting in a bottle but even it can be improved and I’ve heard tell that even a base model Impreza can be modded into quite a beast if you know what your doing. If you don’t know what you’re doing, then you visit the forums and ask questions. ---

IIRC, **Giraffe** set up the boards as an alternative when SDMB went pay-to-post; now it seems to primarily serve as a snarkpit. ---

Tho there is indeed some snarking (don’t forget the fun poking), it’s pretty much confined. And there are members there who know nothing of the current SDMB, either having left SD or never been on it. Many Dopers who also post on Geeb use their same screen name, so it might on the surface look like just a satellite board. But it isn’t. (Unless you make your own use of it that way.) There is a lot of fun, interesting, and even bawdy stuff happening over there. The picture forums are one of the place’s plusses. .
