Harvey Keitel in his younger days - good call **paulberserker**
Bob Hoskins in his younger days - short, ornery, hairy, physical
Maybe the fella - what is it - Marcus Chong, who played Tank in the Matrix? If his quirky energy could be channeled into a menacing place - he seemed short, muscular and intense…

Jackman does a great job, but I wish he were shorter, less classically handsome and more hairy.

The biggest risk I could think of, but might’ve paid off, is Robin Williams - short, hairy and intense - his comedy can come from very dark places - if he could channel that energy well, he could’ve done an interesting job. But he is not young enough and although he is a physical comedian, I don’t know if we could be sold on his physical menace, whereas as someone like Hoskins, although he was silly in Roger Rabbit, was very physically menacing in a number of other films…

I dunno about Wolverine, but I say that Daniel Day Lewis would have made a Cyclops about a bazillion times better than whoever that guy is that plays him now. Ugh. He’s the only member of the cast who I think was seriously mischosen.

That, and Anna Paquin can’t even keep her accent from slipping in when she’s trying to do generic American, much less pull off a full-on Southern accent without sliding all over the place.

Jackman was the perfect choice.

If not him, then some other unknown actor would have been best.
