# Otzi the Gay Caveman and Homosexual Initiative Vienna

One of the reasons for which Cecil casts doubt on the rumour of [Otzi the gay caveman](http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a3_229.html) is that it refers to a group called Homosexual Initiative Vienna, whose initials being HIV make it appear to be contrived.

However, there really is [such a group](http://www.hosiwien.at/); of course, the name being German (Homosexuelle Initiative Wien), it does not have the initials HIV, instead using the abbreviation HOSI Wien.

I also seem to recall that the mystery of his missing penis was revealed in an article at the time it was discovered: Then when they first tried to move the body, the penis was frozen into the ice and got torn off.

Believe me, every male who read that remembers is. 🙂
