My cat also drools when purring. And she is very affectionate and clingy and spends hours crying if she feels she hasn’t been getting enough attention. She just cannot believe that a person could be home and not pay attention to her. Some cats are aloof, some cats have this type of personality. I love my cat to death, but it does get annoying at times.
My cat has needy times, too. She seems to have two modes these days - asleep or bugging me to play with her.
My cat is very affectionate. She occasionally drools when purrs. She is happily sitting on my lap as I type this.
Laps are a good compromise for needy cats that need attention. The cat is happy and you can type without interference.
I too have a cat who drools and is constantly demanding affection. It’s both annoying and endearing. He’s the biggest cuddle bug ever, always kneading and head-butting and climbing all over me.
I picked up a middle aged pound cat Yoda many years ago who spent several months in the same mode - I think he was so damn happy to have a family he purred and cried. Eventually it calmed down a bit. Best cat I ever had.
I had a girl friend like that once.
Keep a large towel handy, put it over you when you’re letting her sit on you and she can drool on that to her heart’s content.
 no no no no no no no!! the cat rules. Period. You are the servant in this relationship
First rule of cat ownership - you welcome your feline overlord
Well you just lost the internet (and any cake) mister!
My cat is much like this too – he drools, he’s super clingy, he likes to “nurse” on objects, etc. Unfortunately, it did not decrease with time and became really bothersome – like he’d jump into your lap 20 times in a row after being put down, even when told firmly “no”. I tried the water sprayer thing but he’s … well, really stupid. He never seemed to associate the spraying of water with anything, and he kept doing the same thing. He wouldn’t even run away, he’d just sit there being sprayed and looking unhappy.
The only thing that “fixed” this was getting my pug, who gives the cat lots of attention – plays with him, licks him and lets him use his dog beds. When the dog’s tired out, the cat will curl up with him and groom him for extended periods, and will even grab his skin folds and “nurse” on him while kneading the pug with his paws (instead of on my blankets and sheets, which is preferable for me). If the dog’s not around then the needy behaviors return.
Call her Bacon! I just really like that name
A friend of mine had this problem in college. If you can elevate your computer monitor a bit (put a book under it) and put something nice and soft in front of it, you can get work done while your kitty lays there with occasional petting. This will hopefully stop her from butting under your hand while you’re typing.
My uncle also had a runty orange male cat, it was the neediest cat I’ve ever seen. It was paranoid and sad and would meow constantly anytime it wasn’t getting lovey attention. I used to put him up on my shoulder like a little parrot, and he would chill while I typed on the computer. Adorable!
That is fucking adorable. You need to make videos of this and upload them to YouTube, STAT! Then come post the link here.
Hurry up!!
We used to have two cats. The younger one disappeared/died a few months ago. When he was with us he would drool constantly, but was otherwise a picture of health. Since he has gone the older cat, who previously was the most anti-social creature ever, has become the neediest thing ever. She is constantly wants to be with me and get petted and will howl pitiously if she knows I am around, but can’t find me. Since this is a new kitty it may just be a reassurance thing and she will grow out of it, or you may just have a needy cat.
Create a mindset where the ONLY thing you want in life is for your cat to be affectionate.
Problem solved.
You jest, but I have been known to head-butt my husband when I want attention. (Not so much with the drooling.)
Ah. The drooling’s where I go wrong.
So I don’t totally fail at the internet as implied here are two photos, extremely close up, naturally - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v654/roofter/DSC_0519.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v654/roofter/DSC_0520.jpg
Still haven’t decided on a name, maybe Droolia Andrews?
Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage, Ratbat. Those are all good names for dogs, cats or children.
No, they aren’t.
Droolia Andrews is cute though.
Fortunately, neither of my cats drool. Miss Kitty is affectionate at times, but not overly so. T-Bone, on the other hand, ***demands *** affection. His head butts could fracture your chin.
We had an orange cat, and we miss him terribly. All he wanted in life was to snuggle with my wife. If she was busy, he’d wait on the arm of her chair till she’d lean back, then lie draped down her torso, his head and paws resting on her shoulder.
