Our employees love us

Color me the same.

Exactly what are you complaining about, as I don’t see it…

You are better off than most, and may not be as bad off as you think you are.

(unless you live in California or New York)

No union, I be a white collar guy.
As far as the what the judge might say, ask the employees of United Airlines or maybe the pilots at Delta what the judge said.
In simple terms, if I lose my pension, I will be 80 years old standing in front of a Wall-mart saying “Thanks for comming in, do you need hug” for $7/hr.

One last time after too many rum and cokes.
Option A You can go away here is $100K for you troubles
Option B You can go away, you don’t get jack shit.

Management at my company apparently thought that no one would want to leave the company (warnings of involuntary staff reductions)
Management did not consider that just maybe the rank and file wanted to get the hell out, and would jump at the chance to get and extra 100K of income. They had their heads buried in the sand. Because they did not plan ahead, I have no clue as to my future.
Yes I am in better condition than some, but I am guessing that a difference of 100K is enough to get any member of the SDMB to start a pit thread.

It is nice to know that a hundred grand is no big deal to you with your income. It represents a large chunk of money to me.

You can still talk to the union. And, Ford is not an airline.

In any case, if the pension defaults, that just means your max pension is $45K/year. Along with Soc security that’s hardly Wal-mart greeter time.

Truly, I no longer have a pension or 401K for my present job. I don’t worry about it, as when I was a kid I never heard about those “silly” things; I just worried about today…tomorrow was something in the indeterminate future.
That’s what bank accounts are for. Kids today are spoiled.

Uh…I thought I made it claer it was a sizeable chunk to me.

I thought you made it clear it was a sizeable amount to you.

If you think it would be better to complain to a MB than to accept what the company will give you, fine.

Good luck at your next job at walmart or MickyDees.

Google Unfunded pension liability + Ford

From here
You sound like Pollyanna in our HR (Hardly Relieable) department. “Oh don’t worry, the pension benefit guarantee benefit corp. will take over if Ford loses their pension.”
Yeah, right. Ford would bankrupt the PBGC.

Your pension to date isn’t safe?? you would stop adding to your (company) pension anyway if you go the redundancy route, so if they change the scheme to a crap one in future, opt out and go private - surely your already accrued pension is safe?

Did the board get hit with a stupid stick this morning, or are y’all drunk?

Rick’s bosses offered him something good. He said yes. Now they’re saying whoops-maybe not. Neener-neener.

The details are irrelevant, he’s got every right to be pissed off about the neener-neener. He’s not pitting the fact that he’s got a decent job (for now) making a decent wage (for now) that’s better than a lot of people have (for now) - he’s pitting the disorganized and short sighted management that offered him something shiny and neat and then yanked it away like Scut Farkas teasing a schoolboy with a ferret.

Hey Rick. I get it. And I don’t have a pension, benefits, or a guaranteed salary. You’re making sense.

One and Only: Nope, that’s what judges are for.

Rick, I feel for you, man. Still, at least you got a chance. Lot of us younger types don’t have a pension, and aren’t saving enough. I try to save, but I have one or two bad habits… you know, books, car repairs… and it’s not working out.

That’s not the way I saw it. I saw it as the company said “here you go, take it or leave it”. The OP said “I’ll take it,” and then complained about it.

<shrug>

Because he didn’t get it.

That was unfair…

use a “spoiler” tag next time so I don’t spit up my soda.

I saw it as “I’ll take it” and then they pulled the carrot just out of reach because EVERYONE said “I’ll take it.” So now it’s “you might get it and you might not.” He feels (and rightly so) that if he doesn’t get this, he may get royally fucked if a judge rules that Ford can dissolve his pension and leave him with nothing.

I’d be scared, too. Not sure how many years he has with them, but when you work a job for a long time, PLANNING to use the benefit they offered you, only to have them reneg on it, it can totally fuck up your future.

Now…that said, I assume only part of his retirement money is in the pension and a good amount is in a 401K. To me, that says he’ll get a $100K fucking, but won’t retire empty-handed. He’ll be another of a shitload of guys who has had his soul sucked completely and permanently from his existence. And that truly blows.

Yeah, I hear you on this…my (ex) 401K suck(ed).

But my present job doesn’t even have 401K…so I really suck.

I suck harder. I acted as if I would never get old and didn’t put nearly enough into my 401K. We’ll stay out of the dogfood aisle…but we’ll be shopping in the “plain label aisle” which isn’t much better. I still have some time to catch up, and I have a variety of sources of income once I cross the threshhold into Official Geezerdom, but :smack: anyway.

My Dad got the fear, fear so bad that he jumped at the chance to retire 10 years early on a full pension. It was a laugh though to hear him proclaim that the reason he left was the lack of care that the bank had for customers now compared to the past

Still, I’m happy he got his mortgage cleared and all that too

Do you want to play"who sucks more?""

You lose, as I “bounce” (not really, as I have overdraft protectionz) over $150 every 2 weeks, and my paycheck is less than $1200 a month…
