An update: According to yesterday’s newspaper, the only injury was a firefighter who slipped on the ice and hurt his back. It’s nice that NJ Transit provided a bus to shelter the firefighters, who came from Tenafly, Teaneck, Fort Lee, Leonia, Bergenfield, Englewood Cliffs, Palisades Park and Hackensack. It’s nice how the towns pull together when needed. The cause “has not yet been determined.” I went by the site this morning. They have put up a fence around it, and are already taking it down, with plans to rebuild. Fortunately, they kept the little walkway on the side on the building that leads to the ShopRite behind it. ---

Awww, come on guys, no matter what you think of the corporation the place was a neighborhood institution and the OP has a lot of memories tied up in it. We’re not all lucky enough to be able to remember Paris in the spring or something. \ Sucks, hon. ---

It’s great that you have a lot of memories from there… But after reading Fast Food Nation, I am utterly unable to mourn for the loss of a McDonald’s. Sorry. ---

Ah… Deception… I thought it would be a French thread. Why? Well, our anarcho-communist and left wing unionists are always ready to tear appart and burn this symbol of the oppressive american capitalism and its taking-over-the-world imperialism. Whatever… I like their salads, although it’s on the pricey side. ---
