# Outdoor recliner eats man

How do you get out of this style recliner? I would end up in the same predicament.
Is the recliner defective?

That’s funny. I’m over sixty, and I think I could have gotten out of that chair no problem. But we all think that we can until we can’t, right?
Although it did look like the man hit his head on the brick wall behind him – that could have gone very badly. Looks like he was okay, though.
Also, funny that the Brits think 75 degrees is hot enough to be worth mentioning.

I noticed the lady’s chair operated correctly. The leg support folded down and she had a normal chair.
I’ve always disliked outdoor furniture thats very low to the ground.

I’m 63. If I’m laying on a chaise lounge enjoying looking at the Caribbean while drinking beer and smoking a spliff, I think a long time before I attempt to stand up.

We have airline tickets and hotel reservations for January 2022 in St Martin. I’m _not_ wishing I was there, rather I’m dreading the airline experience.

I’ve got stuck in a chair like that before, nothing to do with age. It was while trying to adjust it while in it, same as he’s doing. I think it’s a commonly known thing to happen with those chairs. To get out, you have to swing your legs to the side.

Well, it is unusual in Ayrshire. It averages 58 degrees in July and that’s the hottest month of the year. It’s not unusual at all in southern England, but, you know, geography exists.

It could be. But it doesn’t look like he tries to push the leg support down, which is how you operate one of these. Instead he rocks mainly forward, collapsing the chair slowly underneath him.
That said I’ve had trouble with these chairs myself. Getting them to flatten out you force the backrest backwards, which involves a lot more bodyweight and stronger muscles than the move to get it back into a chair.
I much prefer the ones where the position is locked in by moving the armrests. I assume there is some reason that design went out of fashion.

I know, of course. But here in a lot of the US, we’re in the grip of a heat wave, and so the idea of 75 degrees being uncomfortably hot, or even dangerous, as opposed to a yearned-for beautiful day, seems funny to us.

I didn’t see them saying that in the article though? It says that they were enjoying the sun.

That’s a bit different to saying it’s dangerous or anything like that though isn’t it?

I will not sit in cheap chaise lounges as they are such a problem for me to heft myself out of. I need the good knees of my youth to attempt it. And, yes, I’ve been in a similar situation to this man, which added to my dislike of the seats.
