# Outlook 2003 Question RE: Contact Lists

Dammit, I’ve looked everywhere, but I can’t find the answer to this question:
There once lived an Outlook 2003 contact folder called ‘foo’. Sadly, ‘foo’ died and had to be removed. Highlight \> Right Click \> Delete. Bam, he’s gone!
[A dozen refreshs, re-logins, re-boots later]
New Mail Message \> To \> Select Names box pops up \> Click the ‘Show Names From The’ drop-down arrow \> Navigate down to the bottom to ‘Contacts’ area.
Finally, it is here where the problem lies. I see the root ‘Contact’ folder, as well as a ton of Contact subfolders, including our little friend ‘foo’! I also see a bunch of other older contact subfolders who perished a long time ago.
**How do I remove these previously deleted contact subfolders from the ‘Show Names From The’ drop-down menu?**

start - tools - settings - mail
on the ‘addressing’ tab of this dialog you should see a list with ‘foo’ and all the other perished folders - click each and press the ‘remove’ button

if you share the computer with others you may have to make sure you’re editing your outlook profile - when the dialog first opens there will be a ‘show profiles’ button. press that, and then choose your profile to edit.

Thanks, but Outlook 2003 does not have an ‘Addressing’ tab, at least none that I could find. Start \> Tools \> Settings \> Mail does not lead anywhere. Tools \> Settings doesn’t even exist.

Ok, I found the ‘Addressing’ tab: Tools \> Address Book \> Tools \> Options
I was able to highlight the folders and remove them. However, when I go back to New Message \> To \> ‘Show Names From The’, I still see the folders!
These guys simply will not go away!
