A good point here. I’m not sure that Struthers was actually the one who said this, though.
How about John Ashcroft draping Spirit of Justice and Majesty of Law. Talk about telegraphing that you are a repressed chronic masturbator. What an embarrassment for the United States.

Also Disney changing the Pirates fof the Caribbean from chasing after wenches to chasing after food. WTF?

Shit like this really pisses me off.
My friend at Disney informs me that this ridiculous change to the Pirates ride was made roughly five years ago because “someone was offended” by the pirates chasing wenches. The aforementioned friend considered writing an anonymous letter to the Powers That Be and telling them that she found it offensive that the pirates would chase plates of food, because she was on Weight Watchers at the time. 😃

Seriously, though, it is to weep.

Back at the end of the 80’s, my high school’s well-respected and funded Drama dept. staged a production of _Harold and Maude_. Given the subject matter, we were all fairly amazed. Anyways, a competition was held for poster and other promo artwork, and the winner was a fairly neat list of famous couples from popular culture and history: Adam and Eve, Humphrey and Lauren, Romeo and Juliet, JFK and Marylin, Desi and Lucy, etc… Posters were taken down soon after they went up and one couple’s listing was removed.

Sid and Nancy.

I never get tired of telling this story.

The last time I saw _Hard Target_ on TV, it was a scene where all of Lance Henriksen’s lackeys have just fired off a huge arsenal at Van Damme. Of course, he gets away without a scratch, so Henriksen is pissed. He screams at his men:

“YOU ARE STUPID BUFFALO!”

I think the orignal word was “assholes” but “buffalo” works way better if you ask me. If your evil boss calls you an asshole, he’s just being an evil boss. If he calls you a STUPID BUFFALO you know you’re really in trouble!

> **Evil Captor** : On a visit to Stone Mountain Park many years ago, we watched the laser light show projected on the granite face of the mountain. There was also a P.A. voiceover for the show, which informed us that the Civil War was fought over “differences between the way people lived in the North and the South.”
>
> Like, um … slavery, ya think? was the first thing I and probably most other visitors to the park immediately thought.

We actually do acknowledge and use the word _slavery_ in the South. The incident you described wasn’t a matter of censorship. If the voiceover had simply said that the Civil War was fought over slavery, that would have been an incomplete statement. The statement that’s given is vague, but it is accurate. Since the first thing that you and “probably most other vistors” thought of was slavery, the message seems to have been delivered.

> **Intravenus De Milo** : That teacher is an idiot. Shakespeare made damn sure that Romeo and Juliet were MARRIED.

And of course that was really Juliet’s bazooms and Romeo’s buns that were exposed on the screen and our society approves of fourteen year olds looking at nude bodies as long as they belong to married people, right?

It’s not your teacher who is the idiot. Your teacher doesn’t want to be sued by some danged fool parent who doesn’t want his little darlin’ princess seeing a “necked boy” before she is married. You may be cool about seeing nudity and so may the 149 other students in her classroom. But once every few years she may run into a parent like that. A lawsuit every four or five years can make life miserable. That’s why teachers are sometimes painfully careful.
