How can that article in good conscience tell people how to make socks into puppets for wealthy obese western diabetic over-ritalined white children when millions of other children worldwide are so hungry they’d gladly _eat_ that sock just to temporarily banish the hunger pains? For shaaaaaaaaaame. ---

I don’t follow the OP’s idea, do any of the people overseas worry about kids that die here? Or even in OTHER poor countries like say Mexico? I bet not, so it is not a problem of the USA but a fact people will care about people they know. If a neighbor had a child die they would care. The reason stars like Brittany are cared about is people feel they do know them from seeing and hearing them on the screen. After all isn’t just seeing and hearing also how you know your neighbors and relatives? That is the answer to the OP question, simple and elegant.
