Excepting family emergencies, etc., when was the last time you guys stayed up all night for fun? I still do it on occasions, but they seem increasingly, stereotypically rare. Any over 50, 60 out there that still own the night? I can’t imagine carrying on that long at this rate. ☹ ---

I’m 41 and can’t even remember the last time I saw the sun come up from the other side. I go to bed early and get up early now, but I used to be a night owl. Remember when the Dope used to go down at 4 am (or something) every night for maintanenece? Maybe it still does, I’m never up that late anymore. My SO is a night person though, and he’s well over 40. He goes to the gym after midnight and then comes home and watches TV for a few hours and regularly doesn’t get to bed until 4-5 am. ---

When I was giving up drinking, the hardest time not to drink was Sunday afternoon. I started staying up all night Saturday and sleeping all day Sunday. If I have nothing to do on Sunday, I still stay up all night, watch the sun rise, pick up groceries and some coffee, go home, fall asleep, and get up around 4 in the afternoon, drink the coffee, have something to eat, then watch TV and go back to bed. I have no life. ---

Err last week on saturday actually. Got in bed around 4 am after going out, had to get out at 7 am the next morning to deliver newspapers. After delivering newspapers I had a soccer match. I’m considering staying up all night untill I have to deliver newspapers. ---

I’m 41. I’ve done it three times recently - but I’m an EMT; I wasn’t out partying. They were fire or emergency calls that extended all night long. On two of them I got quick 20-minute catnaps. I always went home after (usually around 6:00 or 7:00 am) and slept for about 4 or 5 hours and was fine the rest of the day. ---

I’m 41. At first, I couldn’t remember. But when I first met and started dating my husband, we once stayed up all night talking, cuddling, making out. That was well over eleven years ago. When my mother was dying, I probably came close a time or two–she was a night owl to the end, and had very disturbed nights, and slept a lot during the day. ---

I swear to you that I had to read the OP and thread title six times before I figured out that you _weren’t_ saying that you ate 40 Peeps and it gave you insomnia. I was just thinking, _Damn, I bet that WOULD make it hard to sleep…_ I’m a dork. ---

I’m 60. I stay up all night fairly often (a couple times a month) I rarely go to sleep before 2 am. I worked nights for most of my 40 year career. My husband works 24 hour shifts, so on the nights he’s working, I lose track of time, being surprised when he walks through the door. ---

I used to be able to do it frequently – given half a chance I’m totally a night person. Unfortunately I just can’t do it like I used to be able to. Last time I deliberately pulled an all-nighter without any exigent circumstances was about 3 years ago, and I was a zombie on the second day. Seems like the older I get the more sleep I need. Either that or my body’s just getting me back for the myriad times I pulled all-nighters. I’m a few days away from 35, incidentally. ---

I think the last time I voluntarily stayed up all night was when my wife was in labor. On rare occassions I’ve gotten by on 2 or 3 hours sleep, but I absolutely needed that 2 or 3 hours. ---

Over 50 here. I’ve pulled two all-nighters in the last year, one for work which was anything but fun, and the other when we went to New York for a party, caught a 2 am train as far as Philly, switched to an Atlantic City train, and went to donate money to the casinos there. I did catch a half hour catnap on a bench in the Philly train station, but I was still a complete and utter mess for the next three days. And I’m someone who often works till 2 am (being self-employed, it’s the best time – no phone calls, no distractions), but it’s those three hours between 4 and 7 am that do me in. You know what they say about the older you get, the slower you bounce back? I’m here to testify that it’s true. ☹ ---

At first, I thought this thread was about Peeps too but then I thought it was about large parties with over 40 people attending that went on until morning. While I was going through the worst of my depression, which dragged out over several years, I would sometimes find myself unable to drift off. I would sit by my east-facing window and just wait for the sky to get lighter. I knew that by the time the sun started poking up over the Cascades, I’d finally be tired enough to sleep. The last time that happened was probably two or three years ago. My depression has improved a lot in that time. ---

This last June, we flew a red-eye to Paris, ten hours nonstop. Stupidly, we let them book us into the seats which are just in front of an empty space next to the bathrooms. These seats do not recline at all. We tried, but could not even manage the smallest of catnaps in these seats. Both of us were complete zombies the next day, all the while trying to deal with renting a car and finding our way out of the Charles de Gaul Airport. I’m too old for this. ---

It was just a week ago today, actually. My daughter in law needed to catch a flight at 6 am and she _knew_ she’d not be able to wake at 3, so she decided to stay up. We stayed up and played dominoes. At the last minute her ride canceled so my daughter ended up driving her to the airport, and I rode along. Ended up getting in bed about 7:30, just as Hubby was rising to go cut hay. I slept almost all day, but had no other ill effects. ---
