> \*\* Because I think you’re a crazy person\*\*, and because I happen to have a piece of 0.065" steel of the type that most over-the-door hangers would be fabricated from sitting right here, I just walked around my house (built in 1912 with some new construction from the 80’s) and tried to cram it in the gaps in the 13 doors I found, both interior and exterior. There was one door it wouldn’t fit in without a bit of a shove, and the rest accommodated it easily. Many would have probably fit a piece twice as thick without a problem.

I think you are either confused, or perhaps less than entirely forthcoming.

First, we must assume that your assertion that you believe I am a crazy person was meaningful and appropriate in this context because you consider my OP to be evidence of the crazy. In which case, your reaction makes no sense. The rational, non-crazy response to crazy people saying crazy things is to pay them no mind, not to test their crazy ravings for validity…but that is exactly what you did.

So by testing my assertion, you have shown that you did not believe my assertion to be crazy at all. You didn’t know, you had to test. Which is a good thing, the testing.

But that makes your statement that you think I am a crazy person out of place. You may indeed think I am a crazy person, for any number of reasons, but my statement about door hangers isn’t one of them. Leading me, at least, to conclude that you just thought you saw an opportunity to take a swipe at me. In MpSiMs. (And truth be told, we all know that even if you did sincerely believe that my statement was evidence of my being a crazy person, that sort of unfiltered sharing is not appropriate here.) But since I am pretty much immune to being offended I don’t feel the need to bitch to anyone in authority about it. I just thought you might find it helpful to be refreshed on the subject in case you made it a habit and found yourself caught up in some unpleasantness as a result.

Anyway, I am glad someone is able to take full advantage of these handy devices, I have just kept hoping that someday I would be able to join your number. It seems not yet…

These things fit on my interior doors, but I’ve had the same kind of experience that **minor7flat5** has. Not only do they gouge the door frame and twist the hinges when someone invariably overloads them, but the hooks and whatever is hanging on them bang on the door if you close them too quickly.

Truth be told, I _did_ know, and by testing, I was doing what’s known as “humoring you” in order to prove a point: it’s pretty silly to think that these things generally render doors un-close-able and yet they’re still actually quite commonplace. I’d guess that a house like yours full of such tight-fitting doors is rare.

But you’re right, I should not have called you crazy, and I didn’t mean that you’re literally crazy, I just thought it was a bit of a nutty thing to think about door hangers.
